Did anyone opt for no children at the wedding? Are you having children at your wedding? Its a debate @ my house for my wedding... 1/3 of my wedding will be children if allowed... thats $2,000-3000 in total...
I loveeeee kids but ive seen the chaos they cause @ weddings.. but most of my aunts/uncles would be upset if i said no kids but its like saying 'DONT COME' as per my mother.. .
Please advise.. i know ultimately the decision will be me and the FH but its always good to hear another opinion i feel

we opted for no children. im just not a fan of having kids running around the dance floor and i feel the parents will have a better time without them there.
we have 5 kids IN the wedding, 2 of which are fh's but we are having them all picked up 1 hour into the reception that way they are there for the ceremony, CH and introduction to the reception

Re: To Have Children or Not To Have Children........
We are having children at the wedding. There is a lot of children in FH's family and we don't really mind having the children there. Our RH has a HUGE dance floor and space for the children to play in without getting in the adult's ways; so it won't really be a big issue for us.
But I hear yah on the money you can save by not allowing children at the reception. It is very common to have 'adult only' receptions.

FH does not want any children at our wedding. Of course this means I cant have a flower girl but having small children, or any children for that matter does cause chaos. He flat out told his father no one under the age of 21 will be allowed there

Re: To Have Children or Not To Have Children........
we are just having a few kids at the reception. My 3 1/2 yr old (at time of wedding) niece is the flower girl and she is definitely going to be there. Also FH first cousins have small kids (4 girls: 2 will be 9, one 7, and one 2 and 1 boy who will just have turned 1) who will be invited as 'and family'. All others will have to leave kids at home. FH cousin's will be invited but the smaller ones might stay home with babysitters depending on what parents want to do. I think kids make a wedding more fun but it really depends on how close you are to them.

Girl, me too!!!! How do we get around that? I will have to have a flower gril and there will have to be exceptions.. 'adult only'... are we telling our 16yr through 18yrs old cousins that they are not invited... ?????? this will cause confusion w/ the fam i am sure... I guess phone calls before sending invites????? lol

I'm having only 3 (wedding party). those you would consider kids are close to teens if not already. Other than that, I personally don't want kids. I don't want my guests to have to 'chase' kids around and ruin their fun. Also, its a chance for some guest to get away. But it's all up to you. You have time to think about it.

Re: To Have Children or Not To Have Children........
We haven't completely decided, but we're thinking of allowing children. We're having a brunch, so it might be fun to have kids, plus it might be hard for our guests to find sitters so early in the day. I think it only bumps us up by 10 guests, and at least they are half price (and free under 3, I think!).
Forgot to add: When we were thinking about a more formal reception, the ONLY child we were going to allow was the FG - that's it!

we are having children at the wedding. there are a ton of them! but I wouldn't have them miss it for the world!
I love kids and they're my family and friends.
If a couple doesn't want their children there I feel like that can be their decision when they rsvp.
It is an extra expense but to us it's very worth it.
Besides, how can I invite all my out of state relatives to come and then tell them they have to find babysitters (or trust them with someone I pick that they don't know) or leave their kids at a hotel room?

Re: To Have Children or Not To Have Children........
I'm limiting children and by doing so there wont be any...
On the invites I didn't write the kids names if they were really young kids so by default a lot of people didn't add their kids to their total number of guests. If they want to bring the kids hopefully they'll ask, but some may just put them down regardless. Hopefully it'll lower the # a little and then you're not being rude by writing 'no children' or something to that effect on the invite.

We are not having children except for my flower girl and ring bearer. We expected some people to raise a stink about it but they didn't.
If a third of your wedding will be children...that's a lot of kids to corral!

Re: To Have Children or Not To Have Children........
We decided to not have kids at the wedding, our personal preference, nothing against kids or anything, it's a sat. night formal wedding and we just didn't think the parents would be able to really have as much fun with their kids on their hips. Nno one complained at all. Mostly everyone is happy to have a reason to get a sitter and have a Saturday night out to themselves. The parents with younger kids all organized a room at the hotel next door and have a sitter coming to stay at the hotel with the kids so that they are next door if God forbid anyting were to happen and they split the cost amongst all of them, I think 4 of them are going in together so it came out to like $40 for each family, including the hotel room.

Re: To Have Children or Not To Have Children........
I really didn't want to have children at my wedding as much as I love children. I knew that there would be consequences aside from the crying, kicking and yelling or even knocking things down. Luckily, the children behaved at my wedding. No crying, screaming, yelling or knocking stuff down. The only problem is getting someone to watch after their children esp if they are babies or toddlers. If they are unable to find a sitter, it might mean more people off from your guest list. That's also to keep in mind as one of the factors for opting not to have children. If you work with your venue and get them to lower the cost for children meals, it can cut it down significantly. I was able to get my venue to lower the children meals from $60 to $40. There are ways to keep children occupied. I gave them activity box filled with crayons, stickers, coloring book, puzzles/games, bubble wand in case they get bored/annoyed. You can set up a section in the back of the RH with a small round table and chairs (if possible) specifically for children to keep them occupied. Occasionally, have your DOC or another adult check up on them. It gives their parents an hour of two of comfort to enjoy the wedding and let them dance. Just my two cents, personally from experience having children in attendance on my wedding day. Best wishes!!

Re: To Have Children or Not To Have Children........
As for children it was limit to 10 and older. Most of them eat like adults so that didn't bother us. As for OOT guests if you were coming from DE, SC, GA, Fl, and LA. We didn't stop them if they are bring kids. We felt if you made the trip and paid for your kids to come then it okay. Also we are having a afternoon wedding after Thanksgiving so that played a big factor in if children was aloud.

Re: To Have Children or Not To Have Children........
we are not having kids. It is a personal choice and depends on your families dynamics. The people that have young kids I have told them they won't be invited and so far everyone has understood, and/or been glad bc they can use it as a night out with adults only too
