FH has two kids...so I havebeen hyphenating my name for a while (even though we arent married yet)...so just to make it easier for the teachers etc. I'll likely hyphenate at work and take his last name for everything else

FH wants me to take his, but I'm not sure what I want to do. His name is nice and easy, but I like my last name. I still have 13 months to decide.

im staying with my name and his name. i feel just because i don't have brothers to carry on the name. thats why im doing it.

i'm hyphenating for all legal documents, but i'll have people address me with his last name only.

I'm taking his last name but I am leaving my last name as like a second middle name. So say my name was 'Lauren Elizabeth Smith' and his name was 'Michael Anthony Jones,' my name would become 'Lauren Elizabeth Smith Jones.' No hyphenation.

I am taking his name but changing my name all together, I will be changing my middle name to my maiden name, so I still have as a part of me but don't need to us it really.

Same here!! I think legally I have to hyphanate it, but then I can use his for certain things and mine for others. At work everyone uses their initials as a legal signature as well as signs legal reports, it would be a mess to change it after so long of going by a certain name.

im traditional. im taking his name

Re: to hyphenate or not to hyphenate ... this is my question

my last name isn't a family name.. its my stepgrandfather's.. so the name has no real meaning to our family..

i could hypehenate.. it would be short enough.. but i think my married name will mean a lot more than the old one.

Re: to hyphenate or not to hyphenate ... this is my question

I want to keep my own last name...I like my last name and am very proud of it. I just have issues with his last name and he says he understands (dont think he likes it much though...). If we have children though I dont know who's last name they will have (I really want my last name carried on...there are all girls in my family, no boys, i dont want the last name to die when we all get married...)
