i'll be taking his. mine is a lilltel confusing, peopel spell it wrong and pronounce it wrong so hyphenating it will just be worse. plus i dont want my kids to have a hyphenanted name and then they get married and have what 3 names if they wanna hyphenate? too crazy
i think i will be a lil sad though when i change it...my life identity will be changed

I'll be taking his name. It's under protest though. I really like my last name - it's a nice long Italian name. And his is a short German name that everyone always mispronounces.

Graham-St. Louis sounds to long and drawn out so I'll be taking his.

I'm really struggling with this. I would prefer to keep my own last name and not change it. But It's important to my FH so I will either hyphenate it or change my name altogether and make my maiden name my middle name and take his last name.

Legally I am keeping my name. Since my job involves signing court documents and things I will use my current name at work, and on my passport/license but in all personal situations I will use his name... Christmas cards, notes to teachers, etc. For all intents and purposes I will be Mrs. S (his name) but at work I will be Ms. W.

I'm taking his last name but I am leaving my last name as like a second middle name. So say my name was 'Lauren Elizabeth Smith' and his name was 'Michael Anthony Jones,' my name would become 'Lauren Elizabeth Smith Jones.' No hyphenation.
hi! Have you looked into how to do this. I want to as well, but as I am reading on here, It seems to be a confusing mess involving going to court and filling out the marriage liscence a certain way....

my lovely parents gave me both of their last names so my name is already hyphenated....my whole life i got stupid questions about it...like when i was younger and obviously not married people would ask 'why is your name hyphenated?...r u married?'...really? i'm 10 anyway...i will be taking his name but i will def miss mine

Re: to hyphenate or not to hyphenate ... this is my question
I don't want to keep my last name...it was changed by my grandfather under pressure from my grandmother to separate them from the rest of our family and cut them off from them...if I change it then the name will die with me and I think its better for that kind of negativity to die off.
BUTTTTT....FH's last name isn't spelled like it...but it is pronounced SKANK!!! I'm thinking of just telling people its pronounced the way it looks...FH always teases me and tells me he's going to marry me and make me a skank and then I look like this

Re: to hyphenate or not to hyphenate ... this is my question
I am not hyphenating! my last name now is 10 letters and my soon to be last name is 11 letters - that is way to long to hyphenate!!!!!!
I do think it s going to be weird changing my name at first!
