Re: to mass or not to mass (poll)
we are just having a ceremony, no mass! We both decided that it would be better that way, plus not a lot of people go to the church when its a full mass....JMO.

Re: to mass or not to mass (poll)
I agree with the mass, at first we weren't going to have one but I feel We completed all of the other sacraments, so we should go all the way with a mass!

Re: to mass or not to mass (poll)
We didn't have a mass and it was an hour long. We were told if we had a mass that it would be 2 hours long.

If you are religious, got to mass weekly- or at least more than 'high holy' holidays- then of course get a mass. It's not a matter of people 'sitting' for the mass but how religious and how faithful you are.
I say- why get married in a church if you are not having a mass. You are obviously religious, would you not want the religious rights?

Re: to mass or not to mass (poll)
We only did a ceremony. We had a couple of members in our bridal party that do not accept communion and we didn't want to make our bridal party uncomfortable since they are right up there with us. We felt it would kind of put them on the spot.
Plus, to be honest it really just wasn't that important to us to have a mass. We do not go to church weekly and we felt that the ceremony was perfect for us. We got married in the church rather than at the reception hall because it was important to us to be married in God's house. Plus it made my mom and his parents very happy.
By the way, you still do all of the readings with just a ceremony. The only difference between the mass and the ceremony is the eucharist. But you can still have close friends do readings, I know we only had 2 readings, but I think you can do 3 and there are other ways to work special things in.

Re: to mass or not to mass (poll)
I go to church weekly, FI goes as much as he can, but we are only doing a ceremony. There are a lot of people that will be attending that are either Jewish(our jobs) or Lutheran(my dad's family). I don't want them to be uncomfortable in such an unfamiliar setting. I spoke to our priest and deacon about it and they both said that is usually easier on guests to have a ceremony only. I don't think it is any less religious to have just a ceremony, it's just a matter of circumstances.

Re: to mass or not to mass (poll)
Just a Ceremony here.. we are both Catholic, actually FH was an altar boy, however both us, and our families are not very religious( do not attend mass weekly) and I feel like just because we are getting married is not going to all of a sudden change that, in a way I kind of feel funny, since we don't go to church, except on the really holy holidays. I know that's bad, but it is how we both feel. My curch didn't really push the mass either..

Re: to mass or not to mass (poll)
Quickie ceremony and we're out!! I am so not religious, FI is more religious than me (former altar boy), but neither one of us have been to church since.?.?.?..... since the last wedding we attended, so to have a full mass was not important. I dread attending a full mass. I wanted to keep it short and sweet.

Re: to mass or not to mass (poll)
Fh and I never were religious. We both went to Sunday School but as soon as we made our confirmation we were gone. Never stepped foot in a church after that unless it was for a wedding or a funeral. We are both Catholic. when we moved in together I always assumed we would get married outside and FH informed me he wanted to get married in a church. I agreed and I found a church in town that I liked. Only thing is it is Episcopalian (sp). I fell in love with it and I have been going every week. They welcome all baptized christians. We thought our parents would be happy that we were getting married in a church but I caught some major attitude from FMIL b/c it wasn't catholic. She has not been to church herself in years. So now tht I go every week and enjoy it I want to do a mass. FH usually sleeps in during this time and he doesn't want to 'torture' our guests. It was his idea to marry in a church in the first place! That was the whole reason I asked this question. Do you think it matters that many of our guests are not religious and most of those that are are Catholic. Am I being rude to ask them to participate in a mass that is not of their religion? Sorry so long!

Re: to mass or not to mass (poll)
Daisy-
Have the mass- you are practicing. It's not about the other people. And I've been to my friend's weddings of all different religions and have enjoyed all the different religious rites.
I think it's admirable of you to be concerned with others- but you've found something you enjoy and honestly the difference b/w Catholic & Episopalian is so TINY.

Re: to mass or not to mass (poll)
we're not having a mass, mostly to save time because our ceremony starts at 11 and the cocktail hour starts at 1:30. it's not really important to either of us to have a mass so we dont mind not having it.
