So yesterday was my engagement party and we did not get a gift from one couple. The couple isn't extremely close to us but we really like them and they are definitely not hurting for money at all, in fact they are pretty well in doubt. My question is would you say something or just let it go? And would you still send a thank you?

Re: To say something or not
thats a tough one. I would just let it go. saying something could just escalate it into a bigger issue than u really wanted it to be. and yes i would still send a thank you card.

I'd still send them a Thank you for coming but I don't think it's appropriate confront anyone about not giving a gift. I understand why it would be upsetting though. Even to acknowledge you with a little something would have been nice.

no...do not say anything....
what would you say that would not make you sound like you were looking for gifts...best thing is to let it go...
always send a thank you and thank them for their company
people stink sometimes ....

Bastards.
just kidding.
I would send a Thank You for 'coming and helping us celebrate' and probably let the present thing go, but thats just me.

I would definitely let it go and send a thank you for coming note. I'm sure they'll make it up to you at the wedding itself.

Re: To say something or not
I am not trying to start anything, but I had an engagement party and I did not expect gifts. There is no reason to get annoyed with someone for not giving a gift for an engagement party. (Now if they do not get you a wedding gift, thennnn that may be a different story) To the people who did give a gift, we sent them a nice card thanking them for celebrating our engagement with us.

Never ever say something about the gift. Just let it go. You will be surprised- the people that are well off sometimes give bad gifts or NO gifts.... I know this is a touchy subject for people but it's true.
Plus, if you look at ettiquette- gifts are not required at an engagement party.

Re: To say something or not
I would let it go -- we got gifts from the majority of our e-party guests but not from everyone. They may just be planning to give you something really good at the wedding or were planning on just making a large cash gift at the wedding. I was actually surprised to get so many gifts at my e-party because I didn't realize people considered it customary to bring gifts!

I am sorry but it is extremely tacky not to send a thank you to someone because they did not give you a gift. Getting married is not about getting gifts. It is about sharing your life with someone.

Definately send a THANK YOU.. and don't say anything... I know for some people engagement gifts aren't part of what they do or their family tradition. I imagine you asked them to come to your party because you wanted them to celebrate with you so leave it at that

Re: To say something or not
just going to chime in - engagement parties traditionally were to announce the engagement not meant to give gifts but it has turned into a gift giving event. I think some people feel like we are giving a gift to you at the shower, then the wedding why the hell do I need to give something at a engagement party. Regardless they should of given you a card at least, maybe wait a few more weeks before doing anything since they could of forgotten the card.

Re: To say something or not
I feel like they could have at least given a card. Our party was formal so you would think they could do at least that. I have always brought a gift to every party I have ever gone to so I guess in my family and FH's family it's pretty customary. Since they are not family and they are friends maybe they have different customs. I guess I will send a thank you card to be nice about the whole thing. And I won't say anything.
Their engagement party is in November, should I still give a gift?

I do agree that they should have given a card. As to their party, there is no harm either way in giving/not giving a gift. Since they did not bring you a gift, then they should not expect gifts themselves.

Re: To say something or not
I would NOT say anything about a gift. I would send a thank you for them attending. If you enjoy their friendship. You don't want to jeopardize that because they don't know proper etiquette. Some people have their heads buried in the sand and really don't realize that bringing a gift was the right thing to do!!
