To say something or not

Original post by JamieAnt06202009

So yesterday was my engagement party and we did not get a gift from one couple. The couple isn't extremely close to us but we really like them and they are definitely not hurting for money at all, in fact they are pretty well in doubt. My question is would you say something or just let it go? And would you still send a thank you?

You cant really say anything. But yes you still send a thank you fr attending & sharing in your special time.

Some people really make me wonder!

Nope i wouldnt say anything at all...we got gifts from our guests but we werent expecting it. In my mind engagement parties are just about celebrating with good company. I feel like people are constantly having to give gifts for weddings...e parties, showers, weddings..its a lot! So i wouldnt say anything even though i agree that a card would have been nice!

hmm ... IMO you should just let it go and send them a thanking you note for attending ... I mean people should bring gifts but they technically don't have to do it that day. They have a month until after the party to send it (etiquette-wise) so they may still send it in the mail.

def dont say anything to them. Just send a thank you for coming and just let it go. Its not worth it to even say anything to them. I had someone do that to us too and you know what if they feel its ok to not give a gift then you cant change there mind and besides im sure everyone eles now knows how they are :) and who knows maybe they'll send a card in the mail??

I think in some social circles gifts are not a staple for engagement parties. Think about it - there is a shower gift and wedding gift to buy - it all just can seem excessive sometimes.

I'm Croatian and eparties are not the norm so I did not have one because I knew it would be shocking to everyone and I didn't want them to feel obligated to shell out for another gift.

I would let it go and send a 'thank you for attending' card. One gift won't make a big difference in your life and people will judge your character if you say something - it is not worth it.

I'd just send a thank you and let it go. You never know, they may still send something. And with regards to their upcoming e-party, if you were planning to give something, I'd still give that. Try not to let other peoples actions drive your own. Though it would be completely understandable if you didn't give them something since they didn't give to you guys.

I am sorry but it is extremely tacky not to send a thank you to someone because they did not give you a gift. Getting married is not about getting gifts. It is about sharing your life with someone.

you are abs.right its tacky not to send a ty card but they were really tacky for not even bringing a card. I truley believe that you should never go to a place that you are invited to empty handed.

yes getting married is about sharing your life with someone. but they were still invited to a party cut out the whole marriage thing ,... would you go to a birhday party without even a card?

That is a very good point about the birthday party!! We did invite them because we wanted to them to share in our celebration and I know it's not all about gifts but I just thought it was rude. I think I am just going to let it go and still send a thank you for coming.

Great point...I think I'd still like to give a gift because I want to and I feel that it's customary. I honestly don't know how FH will about that and I'm thinking he probably won't agree...so who knows.

Never ever say something about the gift. Just let it go. You will be surprised- the people that are well off sometimes give bad gifts or NO gifts.... I know this is a touchy subject for people but it's true.

Plus, if you look at ettiquette- gifts are not required at an engagement party.

i agree..and send a thank you for coming card....

thats a tough one. I would just let it go. saying something could just escalate it into a bigger issue than u really wanted it to be. and yes i would still send a thank you card.

Agree 100%!! DEF do not say anything about them not bringing a gift.

Keep the thank you card short and sweet... they will get the point!

I wouldnt say anything but I certainly wouldn't send a thank you, there's nothing to thank them for, just let it go and see what happens

i wouldn't say anything... if it really bothers you talk to someone close to them and be likewe were going through the gifts to write out thank you cards and so and so's gift wasn't there... gee i hope it didn't get lost.
