To take pics with your groom before the ceremony, that is the question

Will you or did you take pics prior to the ceremony? I am leaning towards a yes b/c i want to be there somewhat for my cocktail hour and enjoy it, rather than stressing over taking pics. However, I'd like to also see my hubs to be for the first time when I walk down the aisle. It's a tough decision.

We decided to bec we wanted to go to our CH It worked out fine. The first time you see each other is special no matter if it's before the ceremony or when it starts and your photog will get it all on camera

I wanted to take pics before the ceremony so I could enjoy the cocktail hour but once my FSIL freaked out about it, she put it in our heads that it would be more special if we did them after the ceremony so we could enjoy the moment of seeing each other for the first time at the ceremony and so we could make a big entrance into our reception without having seen everyone already. I'd still be happy with doing it before the ceremony but now FH is all into doing the pics afterwards. We were able to work it out with our photographer though that we can still go to our cocktail hour for a little bit after we take the pics quickly.

Even though a lot about our day stears away from tradition, we would really like to keep this part traditional. I think there is a different reaction when you are kept apart from one another, waiting in anticipation in front of your family and friends. It is a special moment. I can see why people opt to do away with this tradition though. It does prevent you from being at most if not all of your cocktail hour.

We are taking pics before....some of the family (FMIL) is not happy about it but, we want to enjoy our cocktail hour and reception and for our family/bridal party to enjoy it as well.

I think it all just depends on what time your ceremony is and what time CH starts and if you have time. Many getting married at the RH so CH starts right after, in this situation you dont have as much time to take pics, especially if you want to attend CH so it is best to take pics before.

But I had ceremony at 2:30pm and CH at 7:30pm so it was best to take pics after ceremony since we had a large gap and needed to fill that time. Wouldn't have made sense for us to take the pics before. Our ceremony was in a church and we had enough time after the ceremony to go to 2 picture locations, take pics for a little over 2 hours and still got to the RH about 30-45 mins before CH even started.

I am taking pics before and one pro is that I get pretty teary eyed and I feel like if it's a little less dramatic at the ceremony b/c we've seen eachother aready MAYBE I'll maintain composure! Plus I heard your CH can be a great time to say hello to everyone so you can enjoy the reception more.

But my best friend who is also getting married says NO WAY and the 'entrance' to the reception has to be preserved- but then again I'm getting married at thr RH and she's in a church so she has more time I guess for pics too..

It solely up to you. Me personally i want him to see me walk down the aisle, it's something special, emotional. I guess it's up to you.

I hear you. I cry very easily - I def think I need that extra time so I'm a bit more relaxed at the ceremony.
I am also a very nervous person to begin with so I feel like I'll be calmer if I see FH.

we are going to take pictures beforehand. I wasnt thrilled with the idea at first, but we are getting married at the RH and there just isnt enough time. i dont want our pictures to be rushed, and i dont want to waste half the reception talking to people when we can do a lot of that at the CH.

Also, I do really like the idea of FH and i being able to have a private moment together seeing each other for the first time (well, private + photog lol) as opposed to standing in front of 200 people and not being able to talk, laugh, cry and hug and all that. Not that thats not a completely beautiful moment, i'm just trying to find the best in what we chose to do!

Re: To take pics with your groom before the ceremony, that is the question

At first i didn't want to take pictures before, but since our ceremony was at the rh, we really had no choice unless we wanted to miss the entire cocktail hour and i didn't want to miss any part of the wedding. Also, its our wedding day and if i didn't see him before, then i wouldn't see him until 6:30pm (that was the ceremony start time). The day would have been half over already! In the end, I'm so glad that we saw each other before and our photographer set it up really nice. We were able to cry, laugh, and talk for a while, and then take all of our pictures. We went to the entire cocktail hour and got all of the 'thanks for coming' out of the way.
