Did you register before you sent out your annoucements or did you just hope they would send money or other gifts on their own?? FH and I thought that maybe since our families are pretty generous gift givers that maybe we would do ok just sending out annoucements with no registry..apparently we were wrong lol we have barely received anything from anyone!!! Am I sounding too selfish??

GOOD you didn't...Youre NOT supposed to ever send out your own registry. The only time it is acceptable is when someone is throwing you the shower, but theyre throwing it for you so its not you asking for the gifts...Even e-parties youre not supposed to be your registry in there

We didn't have a party....
We sent out our Save The Dates in March & registered soon after. Apparently, my family was waiting for us to register to get us some items...
I'm sorry you didn't get the reaction you wanted!!!
We did have a website that we included on the std's though and the website had our registry info....

Re: To those of you who didn't have an eparty...
well when we announced our engagement some people gave us an engagement card. But no presents or money.
We did have an e-party though in June (about 9 months after being engaged) and we received gifts and money- but didnt register. But I also didnt have the e-party to get those things. I mainly had it to have our friends and family celebrate with us and also because FH was going to Japan for a year and I know his family wouldnt see him alot before he left so that was another reason for the party.
IMHO I dont think you should expect to get some gifts or $ because you send our announcements

umm...I don't want to sound rude, but, I didn't have an e party, because I don't believe in them...and we got a handful of engagement gifts, from our aunts, but I felt very awkward even taking them. I really don't believe in engagement gifts either. I think too much focus has shifted to gifts...you get an engagement gift, a shower gift, then a wedding gift? I don't think it's right. I think an engagement announcement...is pretty much asking for a gift...IMHO, the people who need to know...got the phone call the night you said yes...

Yea thank goodness you didnt., that would have been pretty bad. You 'll get your gifts at your shower.

We didn't have an engagement party! We just made our calls and announced the news! We didn't do save the dates. We're debating on that. So we received some gifts not much!!!!

You dont sound rude...FH was so completely against the idea of an engagement party, so i compromised and said fine we wont have one, but i just want to announce it somehow anyway. So thats when we printed up announcements and sent them out. I know most of my family cant afford an engagement gift, shower and wedding gift...

I didnt have an E Party and just sent the STD's. Only one person gave us a gift card and that was more than we were expecting so we didnt mind at all

Re: To those of you who didn't have an eparty...
YOu know what i give to ppl who tell me or announce they're engaged: A BIG CONGRATULATIONS!!!! and thats bc i know how much i will be shelling out for all the parties, whether they do an e-party, bridal shower and wedding. I also like to give alot so i dont ever think about giving when i find out theyre engaged. Honestly your family and friends just didnt think about it

We did not have an e-party....However, when we sent out an engagement announcement, my family sent us monetary gifts as well as gift cards and we even got some houseware gifts....It was really generous of them....

Re: To those of you who didn't have an eparty...
I had no idea about engagement gifts either. My Godmother sent us something & so did one other person who i'm very close with. I was shocked to say the least... I've never been to an engagement party or even heard much of them until recently....

Re: To those of you who didn't have an eparty...
We had an eparty, my mother threw it, and we didn't expect anything. When people asked if we were registered, we said no and that we just were having the party for our families to meet and to celebrate with those closest to us. My mother suggested we register in case people ask, but we decided against it.

ive seen it too and its understandable if thats what you saw. I understand some girls dont go on websites, but they say it in wedding magazines all the time, etiquette books. I mean when ppl plan a wedding dont they read all these things
