To Video or Not

To Video or Not

I was curious to hear people's thoughts on this issue. We decided not to hire a videographer. Do you think it's worth it to have one? Why/why not? What is the best part of a wedding video?
I'm curious. TY!!

Re: To Video or Not

I really don't see the need for a videographer at the wedding. I mean, i will have plenty of pictures to remember the day by that i really don't need to see my 'Great Aunt Edna' telling me how wonderful she hopes our marriage will be, and then switching to a video of my drunk sister-in-law falling all over the place lol telling us how much she loves us. I know that's a little exaggerated lol But, that is how i view it lol

I just really don't see FH and I sitting down to watch the video years from now.

That is just MHO. :)

I would highly recommend getting the video ... and we haven't even seen ours yet! Its a fairly minimal cost in the scheme of things, there are other 'corners' that you would be better off cutting instead.

Our wedding day really flew by, and I am looking forward to having our ceremony recorded.

You can't really re-live the day through pictures. Its just not the same.

We may not watch it very often after the first few months .... but it is something we will always have to look back on.

I would say get a video because their are alot of things that you don't get to see at your wedding because you are center of attention. So, by getting the video you get to capture those moments on film

we're on fence too. part of me says forrget it but other part, which will win out says- what if it captures great moments the camera misses?

I'm doing a video because I think it will be hysterical to see. There will be tons of things I'm sure I will miss since the day will fly by. And, I think it would cool for my children one day to see it.

i agree. my sister watches her video a lot. also it is nice to show your family and friends. it would also be nice to show your kids when they are older. my FH friend regrets that he didn't get the video. he would have liked to see it.

We opted not to have a video and I think it was a great choice. My DH's uncle videotaped the ceremony and some of the reception. To be honest, I knew I was rarely going to watch it so why spend the money on it. If it is something you really want, then go for it. If not save the money and spend it elsewhere.

There is a lot of stuff that happens that the pictures just don't capture.
The sounds of people having a great time.
Things that are going to make you laugh when you watch it, things that are going to make you cry.
You are going to see things that you did not see on your day, because you were taking pictures, or you were in the bathroom, or someone was talking to you.

During the ceremony, the best man dropped a ring. You can hear the sound of it plinking away on the marble floor. I started cracking up and said to my husband, figures it was mine, at which point the guests started cracking up.

I can hear my niece giggling as she walked down the aisle as FG. I had no idea she did that until one of my friends told me. Her mother had no idea she did that. My niece was just so excited.

On my sister's wedding video, I can hear my mom's voice and her laughter. Can't hear that on mine because she wasn't there.

Cut costs somewhere else and get a video. It is a lifetime memory. Remember, anything can be edited out.

just a personal preference, but i would get it....in the grand scheme of wedding costs, it is not terribly expensive...in fact there are places that will film sort of a 'no frills' video...literally just film, without the chapters and songs and editing...its out there....you will have it forever...JMO

We talked about it too and then decided to get a videographer. You capture the emotions of the day and the reactions of people that you can't see through pictures. You may only watch it a few times when you first get it but years down the road you will be happy you have it. I recommend it. We went with Golden Moments Video.

i completely agree!

there is soooo much that goes on that day and you can't possibly take it all in nor can you really capture everything that goes on b/c you can't be everywhere at once.

having your ceremony on video is priceless - pics can't capture the words you and your dh vow to each other, the emotion in your voices, etc.

i can't wait to see our video - and i don't even like seeing myself on video. i just want to see how everything looked from the guests' perspective.

I agree with the people who are for getting a video. I only wish I had that opportunity when I was married in 1971. I wish I could see all the people who are gone now and I wish my daughter would have had the opportunity to see them also especially in a video so she could see them in action.

While I do understand the value of a video, think about how many times you are actually going to watch it. My mom and aunt told me most people they know actually threw their away after awhile because it just sat and collected dust. And I guarantee you that most people will not want to watch it with you afterwards. Around a thousand dollars (or a lot more) for one tape/dvd that you'll watch less than 5-10 times? Not worth it in our book.

I am definitely an advocate for video, we actually spent a little more on video and less of photo because its something we felt was really important and Pennylane is amazing! I want to be able to sit back and watch things that I might of missed or just to relive it all over again! We may not watch it all the time, but it will be there and years later we can pop it in and see people who may be gone or show are kids and grandkids. One of the girls I work with ended up hating every single picture she got and said the one thing she regretted was not getting a video.

Ive heard many people tell me its not worth it because you watch it once and never watch it again.

I want to get it because first of all, I've watched my parents wedding video and I'm so glad they had one. I'd love to have a video to show my kids.

Also, I think the day will go by so fast, I'm afraid I'll miss so much. Even if I watch it once, I think it will be worth it. As I said, its just a great thing to have around to show your kids.

I was so not into getting a video, until we watched my brothers video from 10 years earlier. Granted it was VHS and not DVD so the quality of theirs wasn't the greatest. It was great to see all the people that are no longer with us...Also his BM speech was great and they never would have been able to hear it again if it wasn't for that video!!! That is what made me change my mind and we are so excited to get ours. We have to wait until August for it to be done. My vote is to get the video!!!

yes, it is nice to have. even if your children only watch it once it's a nice momento for them too. my sister didn't want one but my mom got her one from her friends who did a really cheesy one but my sister was so thankful b/c it was hilarious to watch the reception/dancing part.

we went way over budget on video but i thought it was worth it, plus we got a two minute vignette for the internet b/c more than half of my family is outside the US and will not be coming for the wedding. so i'll email them the highlights
