Am new here; do you think its too early to start planning for a May 2010 wedding? The date is flexible ...maybe May, June or July.
How soon did everyone start planning? Did you use planner or just diy?

I would say you could start planning. Researching & pricing that way you get the best you can get for your money! The one thing i suggest waiting on until about 10 months before is your dress. Styles change & so may your taste! Good luck & welcome to the boards!

I got engaged in November of 2006. By December of 2006, I already had my church and hall booked.
I was the same way. It only took me 3 weeks total to book the hall, the church, the DJ, and Photographer, plus I bought the dress. But I basically moved abnormally fast like that because I already knew exactly what I wanted in a wedding.
I'm glad I got the big stuff done though, cause that was a stressful 3 weeks!!!

I got engaged on 5/16/08 by 07/15/08 I had my hall and church booked and right now we're looking at all the other big vendors (DJ, Photo, Florist and Video) so I don't think it's too early, and I saved a ton of money by negotiating.

Not too early to start doing some research... hold off on buying stuff for a while though b/c you might change what you like

Definitely not too soon!
We are planning for September 2010. It's been great because we don't feel any pressure from reception halls to book soon - since that time is still pretty wide open.
Think about how many people get engaged over Christmas time - come January, there will be MANY more couples looking to book weddings in 2010. Get in early!
