Re: Too much to ask for BM dresses??
My BM dresses came out to about 180....with the alterations included. They were Bill Levkoff and they got a discount on them, they originally were 210

My friend chose a $270 dress and with 15% 230 its expensive but its what she wants so who are we to complain right so I guess your girls will understand or you can look around and see if you can find a better price thats what I would do first

It is your wedding and you get the dresses YOU like. Of course you should not go out and make them spend 500 dollars, but yours is a reasonable price. My cousin picked out cheaper dresses so appease her BMs and they were sooooooo ugly!!!!! Plus everyone looked terrible in them!

Re: Too much to ask for BM dresses??
i chose bill levkoff gowns for my girls---and they were not nearly that expensive
i woudln't be surprised if the salon is overcharging you---shop around. my salon was trying to overcharge by nearly $95 -- i got their gowns elsewhere
i think $275 plus alterations plus shoes plus hair plus make up etc might be a little pricey for others to have to spend. but i'm the type that hates ppl spending money for me

The whole 'its you're wedding, you do what you want' idea is what makes gurls take it to the extreme... there are cheaper bm dresses out there that look gorgeous... whats wrong with davids bridal? seriously.... if someone told me to spend 300 just on a dress... plus accessories plus whatever bridal shower fees they shell out... id tell the person to take a hike... LOL I would never ever inconvience my gurls like that bu i mean hey... if their all rich then i guess whatever goes huh? but mine arent and neither am i...

But you are not making anyone do anything. When you agree to be in a bridal party you know it is going to cost you something. If you cannot afford a dress you can decline to be in the party. Any bride would understand, but do not make a bride choose a cheaper dress she does not love b/c you are cheap.

Re: Too much to ask for BM dresses??
I am only having my sister in my bridal party so I do not have to worry about pleasing everyone. It gets to be too much. My sister had 10 girls including flower girls and at first she was going to go for a cheaper kinda ugly dress to make everyone happy about the price, but in the end we all convinced her to get what she loved. We all ended up with beautiful dresses, and we will prob never wear them again, but they are nice enough where we could.

1st off I wouldnt make someone choose a cheaper dress... if i saw what she liked was gonna cost me more than i could afford, id drop out of the wedding... and im proud to be cheap because in the end... its 1 freakin day... and its not about the money spent on the wedding, or the centerpieces, or flowers, favors etc etc ... theres actually a real marriage after that day

I did not mean to get you all heated. I am actually going for a cheaper wedding so I have more money to put towards a house. I am trying to be as tastefully cheap as I can be. I was not calling YOU in particular cheap, I was speaking in more general terms. Sorry if you took it the wrong way.

I would feel uncomfortable asking people I know to pay that much for dresses

Re: Too much to ask for BM dresses??
that does seem a bit much. Price it out at other stores before you order them. Check w/ your BMs too if they are comfortable with that amount.

Really I think it is a lot to ask people. If you know they have the money then fine.
I know that there are many designers that are cheaper in price. I work a beautiful Mori Lee dress for my sisters wedding and it was $100 and it was not ugly. I also know people having Davids Bridal gowns and they were awesome as well not UGLY!

Re: Too much to ask for BM dresses??
less doesn't mean it will be cheap and ugly if you shop around and able to get the dress for less elsewhere and i mean even the same exact dress
My bm dresses were either 254 or 256 i forget, and that 254 was already at a discount and without tax. I did the no frills program so got alot off and it came out to under $200 for the girls and were shipping to friends house in jersey so no tax. I made sure to get a beautiful dress of great quality but still find a way for them to save. The dress is dutchess silk fabric and very elegant.
some of my girls yes can afford an expensive dress and then some. But also have to consider everybody. It means ALOOOOOT to me to have my 2 younger cousins in my bp. I grew up with them, lived in the same house(it was 2 family) baby sat them since they were babies. For me it wasnt an option of them dropping out in case they couldn't afford it. My aunt went off for over a year so they are paying for rent and everything, they are in their early 20's, both in college and paying for their own school. Being 21 in college and working at what you can get with certain hours and at that age is hard and on top of that to pay rent, and pay all other bills. So like i said before it all depends on your bm's and their situations. If i would've gotten the bm dresses that i picked at any other store it wouldve come out to over $300, even closer to $350 with alterations, and they wouldn't have been able to do that. I cant ask the same from my cousins as i would from another bm who lives on the upper east side and doesnt have to worry about money.
If your girls dont have any situations like that then just talk to them about it and see what they are comfortable with.
