Too much to ask for BM dresses??

Original post by MrsRichie2b

Hi everyone-

So I just found out today that my bridal salon gave me the wrong price for my BM dress I picked out which I absolutely loooved....$275 Designer -Bill Levkoff..

With my discount came to $ 247... is this too much to ask for my BM's to pay for a dress? I was hoping for like $170.... help!!!!

Quite honestly, yes, I think that's a lot. You can run it by your BMs to make sure, but that is definitely on the higher end of dresses. You may be able to get it for less from reputable online retailers like Pearl's Place (I second the previous recommendation for them) or NetBride.

And low price =! ugly.

I've been in tons of bridal parties and had to always pay whatever the price was for the dress....some were disgustingly hideous and some were ok. The prices were usually between $200-$250 so I think that's a reasonable price.

The bridal shop by my house includes the alterations, for my brother's wedding I think the BM dress cost me $225 with alterations and that was a Bill Levkoff dress. I thought that was reasonable.

Check out house of brides they carry Bill Levkoff. Mine were Eden Bridal, I got 2 at Macy's at over $200 each the other 4 I bought from house of brides.com. Hope that helps!

i know i already posted - but my bill levkoff dresses were only $160 from Fantasia Bridal in Rocky Point...so definetly call around!

Thats who I got the price from!!! Thats where I got my gown and veil so you would think they would come in cheaper. I called around and right off the bat got a cheaper price w/out having ordered my gown there- I called them last night and told them they should at least be comparable to what I found and offered where and who,... I got them down to $230 but I still feel bad about asking for that.... I ll just keep looking...Thanks for your help!!!

I think it's high. I was in a wedding where the dresses were similar and i didn't have a choice. But i know when it came to me picking mine i was very cautious. I did get a jim hjelm dress but my FFIL got it for me for wholesale so it was $135...I wanted to keep it under $200...but like others said only you know your girls...how would you feel if a dress cost that much?

Just ask your BMs if the pricing is okay with them?
Also RK Bridal has a price beat guarantee, so try to see if they are cheaper

My girl's Bill Levkoff dresses are $160 too

That is too much, IMO. When you add in the cost of alterations, shoes, travel, wedding/bridal shower gifts, etc., it all adds up. I felt my bridesmaid's dresses were a little pricey and they were only $178. Long story short, though, I loved the dresses and so did they!

More than anything, I wanted everyone to feel comfortable and not stressed out about my wedding - I wanted my favorite girls there, not the dresses they were wearing.

But, like others have said, it is situational. If you feel like your wedding won't be complete without those dresses (I felt mine wouldn't be complete without a cake topper designed to look like DH and I - everyone has something!), and that your girls can afford them, then do what works for you.

My BM dress were Bill Levkoff and they were way under $200. I'm surprise the dress you have in mind is that expensive...
Also, JMO, but I think that's WAY too much $$ to ask your BMs to spend.

Yea, I haven't even looked into BM dresses yet but I am selecting dresses that are under 150. I think it's retarded to have girls spend a ton of money on a dress they will only wear once. I wouldn't ask anyone to spend a fortune. And, I have seen dresses that were under 150 that are beautiful. I have seen dresses that are over 250 that are tacky. So sometimes, you can't win. Sometimes, people get carried away and not realize how much money is being thrown away.

I personally felt bad asking for $150 so yes I think that amount is too much to ask.

I'd first try to price them elsewhere and see if you can get them cheaper.

I don't think its a lot at all.

I'd be upset as a bm. 250 for dress plus alterations plus shoes is an easy $350. I don't care how nice the dress is...i'll never wear it again and I wouldn't want to pay so much for it. Sorry ...wanted to give you my honest opinion!!

ETA: A bm will also be getting her hair and nails done, buying you a shower gift, a nice wedding gift, spending $$ on your bachelorette party and possibly your shower. As someone who has been a bm and an moh..it's very expensive and a lot to ask of your girls imho

NOT necessarily TRUE!!! My girls ended up paying a lot for their dresses BUT they were able to wear whatever shoes they wanted (they all had black shoes to begin with), and I didn't care if any of them got their hair or makeup done!! In the end they all said how happy they were that I went with the more expensive dresses that looke GORGEOUS on them all!!!

Wonder where those dresses are now... Probably the same place where my bm's dollar store dresses will end up... Hopefully they were able to sell theirs and make a quick million
