So i was reading the thread about how old my parents are and i started to think........ i am 31 going on 32 in November i don't know where the time went!!!! anyhoo i finished my bachelors in finance last summer and have a good job after having odd jobs to put myself through school. so i feel like my life kind of just started, i am getting married in Oct 08 and i am very comfortable with money ect..... but i am worrying about kids..... what do you guys think about being 35 or so when i am ready? i am nervous!

35 is in no way too old. And, medically, I think that they don't consider it a risk until 40.

you have to remember that things were different when our parents had us. People got married earlier back then, women didn't wait this long so don't compare.

nooooooooooo!! you are DEFINITELY not too old!! it's really smart to have gotten to where you want to be professionally before you started thinking about marriage and kids.
i think the point of the post before was that a lot of OUR parents started so young and that can make you want to have your kids younger...my parents were young and i always remember us doing fun things as family...and sometimes now i equate the fun to the fact that they were such young parents.
BUT...we struggled all the time growing up. we never had much money, lived in a 2-bedroom apartment, and we were always just getting by. your family will NEVER have to worry about that!!
you're definitely not too old, 35 will still be young to have children...in fact our generation seems to be waiting much longer to get married and have kids then the majority of our parents generation. and i happen to think it's the right way to go....i also think that b/c we're playing it smarter, the divorce rate could be WAAAAAAAAAY down by the time we're our parents' age.
so don't feel like you're behind...you're RIGHT on track!!

thanks...... i guess i look at friends that have kids and start thinking about it. but i have to say that they all work and can't stay home and told my fh that i need to stay home with them for a while

my cousin just had her first and last baby at 38, but they are happy they waited because they bought a house finished school yadda and are well off now.... Women are having babies later and later, but I understand what you mean... nearing 30 here, and the thought is more prevelant these days... I think you are still fine...

Things are different now-a-days... we don't get married at 18 and start pumping out kids by 20... I think I read somewhere that a national survey said that 27 was the average age that woman got married.

one of the reasons i am in no rush to have kids is that in my family - the youngest person to have kids was my sister at 27 (in my generation i mean) everyone else in my family ( siblings and cousins) STARTED at 35 and plan on having more kids!

35 is definitely not too old. My SIL had my nephew when she was 36 and she is now 39 and pregnant with her second child. Her doctor told her that in today's medical age women can safely have children up to their early 40's without any problems.

I am in the exact same boat as you!!! My FH is 37, going to be 38 by the time we're ready to have kids... I'll be 33, if we have issues, 34 and he'll be 39...I worry about it all the time...but if it's meant to be - it'll be...

I don’t think you should stress over it at all. You should bare children when you are ready. Doctor nowadays make you believe that its so wrong the have kids once you hit 30, and I think that’s so wrong. My mom had my little brother when she was 40, no complications, nothing. All I can say is keep your self healthy, and take a look at past generations in your family to have an idea of your future. Don’t worry.

my mom was over 40 when i was born, as was my dad. My parents are awesome. You're only as old as you wanna be. Stay active and what not and it won't be a problem at all.

Not at all!! My mom was 32 when she had me, and I had a great time growing up! we went on vacations all the time, and I personally don't think age matters when it comes to family, if you would be a fun parent at 20 you would be a fun parent at 40 end of story lol

2 of my friends got married when they were in their mid-late 30's and their docs told them that they should start soon cause it is very hard when a woman tried to have a baby closer to 40 or over 40. Just what i heard.

My mom was 40 when she had my youngest brother. He was also a Woops baby haha.
He is 7 years younger then the one right before him. But she had no complications or anything.
And I do not think 35 is too old at all. My FBIL and his wife are waiting until about 35. They are 31 now and just got married. She is waiting for tenure in another 2 years and he is getting tenure this year. So they wanted to wait till they are secure in their jobs.
