I was wondering if anyone else had this issue. I'm pretty conscious of my body. I work out almost everyday, and follow a pretty limited diet. Some people (parents, friend, or the occassional co-worker) will make comments on how I eat, or that I should gain a few pounds, or try and force junk food on me (by force, I mean asking me over and over again if I would like something, when I made it clear the first time that I didn't want any). I don't comment or pass judgement on people who are overweight, or who eat differently than me. Why do some people presist on doing this?

Re: Too Thin...
My mom's doc said she was too thin, all skin and bones. There were some family issues and she stopped eating and went from a 10 to a 2, now she's a 4-6.
I guess if they are concerned for your health its okay.
My mom and I don't eat well now, its just the 2 of us and tuna is just fine after working all day. And I'm sure its going to get worse for her when I get married.
If you are eating healthy and your doc doesn't have a problem with it, neither should anyone else.... unless they are

Re: Too Thin...
Your friends and family are probably concerned about your health.
If you eat a well balanced diet, & eat when you are hungry (ie: you do not starve yourself) then I would say you're OK.
But you say you do eat a limited diet. Do you have food allergies that restrict it? Or you mean you limit yourself to not eating fatty foods or foods high in calories. That's not limiting, that's healthy eating.
Some people dont actually realize when they have a food eating disorder. I'm not saying you do but if your parents and friends and family's comments are bugging you that much, before you can tell them you are eating well and you're not sick you might want to re-examine what you eat and why you limit yourself.
If you really are eating well, then I would tell your family that you appreciate their concern but you are eating right and their well meaning words are starting to !!!
Good luck

I've been made fun of and harrassed my entire life for being too skinny. I eat more than an army ... nonstop ... all day .... and never gain weight. What people don't realize is that when they constantly tease you about your weight, it gets to you. People would never tease an overweight person the way they do with an underweight person. I actually went a while without showing my legs in fear of being teased. Since I'm married, I say, 'F*ck it!'

i think i'm fine and could stand to shape up a bit and lose a few, but my family is on my case telling me i'm going to wither away. seriuosly, i'm fine, but work keeps me busy and active. when your ribs start showing, then you have a problem.

Re: Too Thin...
A few years back people use to tell me that all the time and I hated it. I was underweight/very thin and I hated how I looked and didn't need anyone to point it out...people say it is a compliement but I did not feel it was. I ate a lot and didn't work - I had a high metabolism and it runs in my family. (Since it has slowed down as I got closer to 30 - but still darn good but I am no longer a size 2!) I think it is rude to comment on people's weight regardless if it is low or high or normal.
Often when people see others who work out a lot and follow strict diets - often it throws up red flags and people wonder. If you know what you are doing is healthy (not obsessive - huge difference and often tough to evaluate) then tell them to shut up...

Re: Too Thin...
I honestly feel like I eat enough, I'm just very selective. I have a full breakfast in the morning. Throughout the day I have about 5 mini-meals (salad, tuna, a bag of nuts, hard-boiled eggs, turkey and lite cheese). When I get home I usually have two turkey burgers, and a vegetable, or tofu stir-fry for dinner. I try not to eat after 7:30 pm or so. I exercise for about 45 minutes in the morning, and another 45 minutes at night. On the weekends I tend to eat more, and sometimes during the week, I'll have a little ice cream. I could probably stand to treat myself more often (not that I think I'm going to ballon up or anything), but staying in shape is very important to me. I'm about 5'8', and weigh around 124/125 on a normal day of the month.

The only thing I would say to this is do you allow yourself to splurge? And if you do - do you say so what or do you get mad or obsess over it? Do you not do things (not saying everyday) because you are always looking at fat content or calories? What happens when you miss the gym?
I think you weight and height is ok and if you gained 5lbs you would still be pretty thin. I know I am 5'8' and when I weight low 120's and a little lower (that is when most people would give me the too thin comments - but it was my natural body) - I was very thin and looking back at pictures I feel I look better closer to the 128/130 side....

Re: Too Thin...
I do splurge, normally on the weekends. Sometimes I splurge too much, probably because I eat light all week long. The comments I get are usually from people who are overweight, and complain about thier bodies and diet. Then there is my mother, who takes it personally when I don't eat her cooking (she gets offended, like a lot of mothers and grandmothers). Then my dad eats ice cream at like 11:00 at night, and tells me to have some, and when I tell him that I already had some, he tells me to have more. Back in high school, I actually weighed more,- I'd say about 135 (which is still fine). My dad always says that he likes me better at that weight. I personally like myself better at 125. The lowest I've been is 123. I wouldn't want to go any lower than that. I don't look in the mirror and see fat or anything, in fact I like what I see, and am very comfortable with my body. The only times I feel unhappy with it, is when it's that time of month, or right after I've had a big meal. If I miss working out, I'm ok with it, but I make every effort possiable to wake up early and get my workout in.

Re: Too Thin...
I don't go by what those guidelines say. According to them, at 5'7' and 120 lbs, I'm underweight. But they don't take into account your body type. I have a very slim frame (ectomorph).
At my bridal shower, one of my father's cousins said to me twice, 'Oh Ann, you're so skinny!!!'. And she didn't mean it in a complimentary way. My mom tells me all the time that I'm too skinny.
Well, all they ever see is my bony wrists because I'm always wearing clothes obviously! They never see me when I'm in shorts and a jog bra, working out at the gym, all my muscles showing. I am THIN, not SKINNY. There's a difference. I lift weights so as to NOT be skinny, and I eat plenty. People can't believe how much I eat. I eat every couple of hours. But they don't understand that that's the proper way to help your body metabolize your food. Everyone who guesses my weight thinks I'm like 100 lbs!

Re: Too Thin...
Maybe you should fight fire with fire and tell your father that eating sugar at 11pm at night will give him sleeping problems (ask him if he always wakes up tired or wakes up in the middle of the night) or that it actually isn't normal or healthy to 'clean your plate' if you already feel full. Maybe they'll get the hint then!

Re: Too Thin...
I never understood how WW could have a 30+ pound range for any particular height.
Body fat % would be a better guide line.

Exactly. It shouldn't matter how much you weight, but how much body fat you have.

Re: Too Thin...
You eat 2 turkey burgers for dinner? That's sounds pretty normal to me. Healthy, but not skimpy. You weight sounds low, but if your Drs are ok with it, don't listen to other people.

Re: Too Thin...
I'm glad to hear that a lot of you can relate. Many of these people who comment on my weight, are the same people who are later asking me for advice on how they can shed a few pounds. I think many people in the world consider it 'normal' to be overweight. I don't follow the Weight Watchers guildlines, because there is more to it than height and age. Also, they base that on your 'average' female. The average person is overweight. Many people are not used to eating small, light meals throughout the day, and passing dessert up, so when they see someone who is different, right away they think that they have a problem, rather than see that it is they themselves who lack control and dicipline. Or maybe the erson does eat a lot, but has a fast metabolism. I feel people should not comment on a person being 'too thin'. If someone made a negative comment to someone who is heavy, it would be considered cruel. Further, I don't think that it is healthy to eat a 'big' meal, and then lay on the couch, and turn on the TV. Eating small frequent meals every 2-3 hours throughout the day is proper, because everytime you eat a mini-meal, you kick start your metabolism, and if you eat small healthy snacks during the day, and avoid starches and refined sugars, you prevent spikes in your blood sugar level. Also, I don't know about anyone else, but if I eat a junk food, or a huge meal, my body doesn't feel right afterwards. I feel sluggish, and tired to the point where I have no energy. I'd much rather have a light satisfying meal, and do a workout. For example, tonight for dinner I had a generous helping of Salmon, sauteed in mac nut oil, with organic spinach. For dessert, I had a low fat/ low carb mixture that I created myself (silken tofu, a tablespoon of cool whip, frozen blueberries, sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar substitute,- very tasty)... Thanks for reading as I go on and on...
