Top LI Venues? (more details posted below)

I used this site 7 years ago when I got married at Oheka Castle. My sister is now engaged and looking for a similar caliber site though not necessarily Oheka. Are there any new top places on LI? Or is Oheka still considered the best?

Thanks!

Congrats on your sisters engagement. I don't think it's considered the best...maybe the priciest. Some people consider Russo's the best. Some people consider Bourne Mansion or the NYIT place the best. Is it the most expensive still? yes. LOL It is gorgeous but I think people now think it's overrated. I think Oheka and Garden City hotel are considered 'most prestigious' and 'most expensive' and if a lot of people had the money they would go there.

Personally I think the Garden City Hotel is nice but 2 choices for dinner? That's kind of weird and not impressive to me. And 10 grand just to rent Oheka? That's awkward especially this day in age. I think people are going for unique. There's a few places out East that are becoming amazing and the one wedding at a time places are becoming popular. I have heard amazing things about Georgio's but I have never been and Land's End I heard is fantastic but again I have never been.

I think the best is definitely in the eye of the beholder and if you ask that question here you will get a hundred different responses. Maybe your sister will like a vineyard she can rent out. My cousin had hers at Rafael's and while the site fee is high is was pretty darn cool and different! It's kind of far though but to me it was worth it.

Best of luck!

Girls, obviously she thinks Oheka is the best because that is where her fabulous wedding took place! We are all partial to our venues.

What does your sister want? Does she have a specific look and feel she is going for? Does she want waterfront? These are all important questions. Find those out then we can help you with suggestions!

Agreed!!! Everyone's opinion is different so I would suggesting looking online first then going to visit the venues. Congrats to your sister.

Let's just say that IMO some of the best venues are on and around Jericho Turnpike.

Maybe try the Royalton....

I think it definitely depends on your sister's preference. What's great for one bride might not be exactly great for your sister. Research, research and more research is definitely the route that I would go first.

Re: Top LI Venues?

Here are some more details....

My sister currently lives in England with her fiance. Our family is from Long Island. His family is from Mexico. Since they both went to graduate school out of the country, they have tons of friends from all over the world. These friends always travel to each other's weddings. They are planning to have two parties: one in NY or LI and another in Mexico.

My sister really wants the NY wedding to be unstructured and casual with lots of talking and a long cocktail hour. She wants it to feel comfortable. Her ideal location would be our family's winery out east but we are concerned that it will be too small for the number of guests she would need though she could have a tent at the winery. Having the wedding at another winery is not really an option.

There are a lot of variables and she and her fiance haven't determined any of them. They do know that the wedding in Mexico is going to be a huge party with dancing, lots of alcohol, and food. Mexican weddings are all day and night affairs. The NY/LI will be more low key though still beautiful.

Any other ideas?

When I picture Oheka or something similar to Oheka I don't see casual cocktail hour. Plus its more of a normal catering hall thing now with the 'new' wing they added for the reception. I liked it a lot more when it was just the old hall with high ceilings that they used for main dinner/dancing. They should put it back there. They kind of ruined it with that new addition, even if it does have nice views, just in my opinion that is.

She should have what she wants. If she wants a casual cocktail hour wedding, and you guys have a vineyard or winery I think its a no brainer to just have it there and have the big party in Mexico. Unless the open property/lawn is super small and you guys won't fit on it. I'm not a fan of tent weddings but they can be really cool if the weather is great and decorated fantastically. They look great in photos!!! And she could have it all night with no end to the party since it is your home. Plus if the weather is not great you can get the portable heater lamp things. A con issue would be toilets.... or lack there of. Chelsea Clinton rented fancy porta-potties though, so that may be something to look into.

She could also look into the Hamptons over at Oceanbleu? Is she into beach weddings?

The alegra hotel in Long Beach is so pose to be beautiful an on the beach.
I think it has a modern laid back feel to it but I dont know how good the food is or anything since it is relativity new.

I was at one wedding at Alegra. Thought it was a tight fit and if you have too many guests for vineyard, it might not work. Also, it was in bankruptcy, not sure what happened with that. The hotel is definately overpriced.

We are using Bourne but that is a mansion so not so informal. A tent wedding might be best.

Have her check out Oceanblue in West Hampton. I have heard that it is absolutely gorgeous but it was too expensive for us.

I am getting married at Bourne and they have an option where there is basically an extended cocktail hour instead of a sit down dinner, you choose different stations and people eat when they want. It might be worth looking into.
