Carlyle (of course) because it's the only one I visited that I thought was classy. Of course, classy is objective- to me classy means understated and not 'over the top' in any way (so, no ice sculptures, fog, neon, or chandeliers)... also places that only had one reception at a time was important to me...

There are so many, however there are some private country clubs on LI that are just classier than any hall. Old Westbury Country Club and there is another in the same area that are incredible.

I would say my hall, The Crescent, is very classy, but that's just my opinion. I was looking for a place with a different feel and a place that serves awesome food. I think I got just that. And they only do one wedding at a time.

Of course I am partial to Carltun.. but from what I actually looked at, and from pics I have seen on here:
Oheka Bourne Mansion Vanderbilt Harrison House Carlyle Flowerfield Village Club Nassau County Museum
There are more, but I do not remember the exact names. I too, think the older, more 'gatsby-esque' places are more classy- but that is my opinion.
I agree that classiness is subjective.. some prefer the more modern look.. But, I also believe that the class of the affairs depends greatly on service, menu selection and food presentation. And this can certainly be acheived on any price level.

People have very different ideas re: what is 'classy' .......I chose the Watermill b/c I thought it was classy and 'cozy' at the same time ....... My cousin chose Villa Lombardi b/c she said it was 'classy' and 'elegant' ......I personally think it's way too ornate. - But that's MY taste and my perception of 'classy' you know ?? It's all subjective.

I COMPLETLY AGREE...
To me - there's just something weird about asking what the classiest places are .... then naming your place.
Its like asking who has the best FH/DH... and starting with yourself.

Is anyone else a little uncomfortable by this post? I can see if it was asked by someone in the process of looking for a site. I don't know, something about it rubbed me the wrong way.

Actually, not everybody looks for a classy hall. Some people WANT a big Long Island wedding in a lavish hall. Not everyone wants understated.

Yeah it depnds what you mean by classy. I wanted understated, but some people consider that casual or plain or boring or even 'country'
Places like Oheka & the Carlyle would have categorized as 'fancy or formal', but I've never been there.

I was married at Old Westbury Country Club. It's private so many people don't know about it or have been there....we loved that! But it is very classy...very different feel from a hall. Our guests were blown away by the service, food and ambiance.

I'd have to agree with The Roslyn Claremont Hotel, but I'm biased.

hence the reason it has so many views and not equal responses. Its not a bad post..but it can be taken the wrong way by some. No drama..just an opinion.

Re: Top three 'classiest' reception sites on LI?
I'm pretty sure we all chose places that we loved and felt had special qualities, whether or not we labeled them as 'classy,' 'chic,' 'comfortable,' whatever... I've been to some classless weddings at very beautfiul places. I think a lot of the 'class' comes from the people at the wedding, not necessarily where you have it.

I agree, that 'classy' definately doesn't mean more expensive. I also love the older mansion type places: Oheka, Bourne, Vanderbilt, but just because they are more of an estate with an old mansion/castle doesn't make them any more classy then another beautifulplace, like say Westbury Manor.
I can also understand why some ladies are uncomfortable with the post.

Re: Top three 'classiest' reception sites on LI?
I don't think i can associate any particular reception hall as being classy per say. They all scream something i don't know if it 'classy' My hall, along with others screams (IMO) cozy and classic. some scream contemporary, some scream some sort of theme (rapheal-country/wine)... But in my opinion they can all be classy...I think it depends on the bride and how they chose to create the wedding...
