So I have done the Keratin treatment in the past before...and now with all the stuff about they ALL have some type of Formaldehyde, it is making me paranoid!!
I want to get it done this week...so I can add extensions and start doing hair trials....but I am torn on whether to go through with it or not. My hair needs some type of component whether that or a relaxer...which I tried to stop doing since it was unhealthy for my hair.
Ahhhhhh Decisons decisions!!!!

I want to do the keratin treatment too, but I thought maybe it would make my hair difficult to curl and style for the wedding.

I have done it twice before and my curls did not hold very long with other trials. It has been about 6 months since I last got it done so it is mostly all washed out. I went for another hair trial last week and the curls stayed so much longer.
I was planning on getting it done after the wedding, but after hearing all the crazy things about it, I won't be doing it anymore.

Re: Torn on Keratin treatment
I've been getting Japenese straightening done for 5+ years and it hasn't ruined my hair at all although it doesn't hold a curl very well. I was going to leave my hair be until the wedding but the frizz is out of control!! For the wedding I'll just get extensions that will hold the curl better than my hair can anyway
After I watched the special on keratin treatment and the formaldahyde, I wouldn't recommend it at all. They say even the formaldahyde free ones release formaldahyde when heated.

Re: Torn on Keratin treatment
My sister is a hair dresser.. She does it herself and to all her clients. She curls her hair atleast 4 times a week and has no problems with curls. I havent heard anybody complain about it yet. I know shes done some people since it showed on the news.
I personally think everyones going to have their own experiences with it.

Re: Torn on Keratin treatment
It is absolutely amazing. I used to work in a salon and had it done to my hair several times.
HOWEVER, they will be banning it soon. All of the formulas for it, even the new ones that claim there isn't any formaldehyde in them.
So if you are thinking of doing it, I would do it quick lol

Don't do it. It's not worth hurting your body. Also, your hair will hold a curl better without it.

Re: Torn on Keratin treatment
Yea it is amazing, and does wonders for my hair. And my hair needs some sort of straightening process....since my hair is kinky yet curly and unmanageable with a mind of it's own.
But with all the health effects...and all of them having some sort of harsh chemical...I don't knoowwwwww!!!!!! I have an appointment today for color, and maybe that. I have until 3:30 to figure it out. lol
My hair still holds the curl with it in, but that's only because it helps reduce curl for me and frizzyness...not elimate 100%. So I'm not worried about that part of it.
I don't get it done too often. Maybe 2-3 times a year. The japanese straightening made my hair fall out. That is NOT meant for my hair type. But the keratin has made it actually healthy and grow...minus the formadehyde that hurts your health!

What is exactly is it? I know I've heard someone tell me they have some sort of cream that acts like keratin until you wash it out....but It is hard to even wash and blowdry my hair without some process to make it manegable.
I owe it all to my mixed parents.

First you use the shampoo and then a cream. After the cream is in your hair for 45min you then blowdry and flat iron and you cannot wash your hair for 2 days. This treatment lasts in your hair for 30 days. I have frizzy hair and I am at the end of the 30 days and have no frizz yet.

Re: Torn on Keratin treatment
I have to tell you I ABSOLUTELY love it... I don't go overboard and only do it once a year in June.. so it lasts the hot humid months. I have curly hair and if I let my hair dry naturally after the keratin treatment it is NOT straight.... You still have curl to your hair, just NO frizz!!! I am doing it two months before my wedding :0)

I dunno... how bad could once a year be?? All the things we breath in.... There are hairstylists who use it everyday multiple times on clients...
I can justify once a year for the results!!
