I want to do the Bo-K/garter toss but there will be less than ten single people at our wedding. Think it's silly to have all men and women come up? I have some married relatives who said they would love to get up. (We would play either Suspicious Minds or You Cheated, You Lied or the like as a joke if a married person caught it) But if we choose not to toss the Bo-K/garter and do the anniversary dance instead, does my FH still take the garter off me before it is given away? (I'm guessing the toss bouquet goes to the female anniversary winner and the garter to the male annivesary winner.)

I never cared for the garter removal. I wasn't going to do anything until I learned of the anniversary dance. I think it's much nicer to honor those who have been married for so long.

Re: toss or anniverary dance?
I'm doing the bo-k/garter toss, but instead of all single people (I only have 3 of them) everyone will get up and the person(s) who catch the bo-k/garter get a dance with the bride/groom.
I really wanted to do the bo-k/garter toss, but had no single people, so I really thought this was a good alternative! I'll just have my DJ announce how it will work :)

Thanks ladies. Haven't decided yet, will discuss it further with my FH. I know my single MOH wants to catch the Bo-K!

Do what you want, it's your day.

I agree, I have seen the toss done with like 5 people and it's still fine...no rule stating that a bunch of people must be there to catch.

We chose not to do either one and instead have the anniversary dance. Unfortunatley, we ran out of time and didn't do that either. No one even noticed.
If you really want to do it. Go for it! It's your day and you should have it the way you want.

Re: toss or anniverary dance?
If I had to choose between one or the other, I'd have to choose the bouquet toss out of respect for my mom. Dad is ill and will not live to see my wedding day. This year will be their 49th wedding anniversary and being that next year would be 50, it would be too hard on her.

Re: toss or anniverary dance?
I remember being at a wedding when I was one of 8 or so single women called to the dancefloor and none of us wanted to get up there to catch the bouquet - I felt so embarrassed and no one went for the bouquet. The bouquet hit the floor and everyone stepped away from it - finally someone picked it up.
I dont have any problem with the tradition of the bouquet toss - but if you're only going to have a few people up there - just make sure they're the kind of people who wouldnt mind doing it - a lot of people dont like the attention.

Sorry to hear about your dad's illness. I will keep all of you in my prayers!
(I also thought of not having the anniversary dance out of respect for my FH's mom. His dad has already passed away.)

Re: toss or anniverary dance?
We did the anniversary dance. I was pretty much the last person of my friends to get married and I didn't think the 2-3 single people at my wedding would have been appreciative.
I enjoyed the anniversary dance. We gave a Wedding Day Yankee Candle with ribbons in my wedding colors tied around it. And the DJ made a fuss and asked them to give us advice. It was cute. But again, if you have single friends and you want it, then go for it.

Re: toss or anniverary dance?
Personally, I decided to skip both the bouquet and garter toss. I never liked either when I was single, and now there are only about 4 single people (male & female) coming to our wedding, so it seems cruel to spotlight them like that (none of them would be into this).
The anniversary dance seems like a nice option though, if you want to do something.
