Tossing and turning all night....

Tossing and turning all night....

I am SO tired and relaxed when I go to bed but I keep tossing and turning and having wild dreams when I go to bed. (Wild in the sense of a lot of commotion). So I wake up tired and un-refreshed.

What are some remedies for this? I don't want to take sleeping pills, etc.

Chamomile tea? A warm shower before bed?

We just got a new mattress so I know it's not that - this has been going on for a while. I always get leg spasms too.

This works for me, I make a nice cup of tea ay good night to hubby and lie in bed and read a couple of pages of a book.

Reading seems to relax my noggin and its the olnly way I can totally calm myself

Are you eating a couple hours before you go to sleep? That could do it.

Warm shower or bath, chamomile tea, are both good ideas.

Don't watch TV before bed, especially the news, or read an exciting book.

I can't stand nights like that, where I just toss and turn and can't sleep.

Hope you have a better night tonight!

If you're into herbalism at all, Valerian root is supposed to help you sleep. It's sold at health food stores in pill form....

Feel better! Insomnia is the worst.

Try relaxing music (nature sounds) or meditation tapes maybe. Also leg cramps/spasms can be potassium deficiency ...

Try oils and lotions made with lavendar. They help you sleep.

Valerian root works fairly well, if you can get past the fact that it stinks to high holy hell!! I had a bottle of it in my kitchen cabinet and it stunk so bad that I could smell it every time I opened the cabinet door. I had to throw it out because I just couldn't stand the smell while it was in the bottle, let alone once I took it. Bleh!

You should make sure your bedroom is as dark as you can possibly make it and a little on the cold side. Not cold so that you're uncomfortable, but you'll sleep better in a cooler room. I don't remember the last time I slept through the night, so I completely empathize with you!

I hate that feeling!

I take a hot shower and let the natural cooling process take me down slow. Warm tea helps as well. And yes, I've used Enya (none with drums) very very very quietly in the background. I mean so darned quiet that you have to sit prefectly still and quiet to hear it. Oddly it makes my mind work to figure out the sounds. And with my mind on something like that.. I drop off.

Other nights... NOTHING helps! Those nights I have to admit, I take drugs. My personal favorite Tylenol Nighttime. (whatever it's called). It's lighter than the sleep medications they have out there over the counter. And since I actually DO have aches and pains I normally ignore the Tylenol relaxes my body.
