Re: Total Cost
We booked early and an off day -Sunday in March, and have been shopping for the best prices around from start to finish without the honey moon it will cost 16,000... we found with a 2 year engagement that we have been able to get the best prices because we had time to shop it, the wedding will look like we spent way over 60,000 because if we waited to do the vendors etc. People have told me I should be a wedding planner!
We also knew what we wnated and refused to let the wedding run our lives, there is no end to planning, that is where the big money comes in. (unnecessary things- we did not want a cigar bar or a vieneese hour etc, you have to pick what is important to you)

Re: Total Cost
I think ours will be around 40-45k
Ok actually typing it was really scary!! To think we thought when we first got engaged that we thought we could do it for 15k. Our hall alone is like 20k

Re: Total Cost
Approx $40K- $45K, and that's for a Sunday afternoon with 130 guests. Before I started planning, I was thinking everything would be around $20K... Things just started adding up very quickly.

Re: Total Cost
Hello,So far ours is a little over 21,000 for 140 guests. We set aside a small downpayment for a house and are not going to touch it. A lot of people may be ****ed off they are not getting invited to my wedding but I had to compromise # of guests for a quality reception. I guess this is a sacrifice I had to make to avoid going broke after the wedding.

Re: Total Cost
I just got engaged last weekend but have been reading the board for a while. We are really going to try to do this for 15k (I may be LMAO in about 6 months if I re-read this) by having a cocktail reception - no sit down dinner, just heavy hors d'ouevres and drinks, and only for about 3-4 hours. A jazz trio instead of band or dj (will cost about 1200). Very minimal flowers - nice, but nothing ornate, just roses in low glass vases and lots of candles. Possibly even no favors. And only 75-90 people. We'll see, but for me it's all I can spend, if I had more, trust me I'd go all out.

Re: Total Cost
I guess it all comes down to biggest expense for a wedding...the reception costs. The reception is what really jacks up the cost of a wedding and even more depending on what time of year, the place and how many people you have. Some receptions can cost up to 20,000 alone while some can be under 5,000.
Because of this I chose a January wedding. The church will still be decorated so that saves me a bit on flowers and the reception hall is almost 1/2 price (still expensive on a poor librarian's salary!!!)
However, I didn't realize that January is expensive in terms of honeymoon costs. So some of what we save on the reception will be eaten by a higher honeymoon bill!
You just can't win on LI!!!
