This maybe personal and I'm sorry if I offend anyone but I want to know if I can have a great wedding at a reasonable cost? I have nothing right now...so if you have vendors at reasonable prices let me know! I am hoping for under 20k if thats doable these days??? Thanks!

Re: Total wedding Budget
It will prob depend on when and where you have your wedding. Also, the amount of guests you invite. The RH will prob be your biggest expense. If have a Sunday wedding or a weekday (like the Wednesday before thanksgiving), it is cheaper as per the places I have visited.
Anything is doable if you put your mind to it!

Re: Total wedding Budget
We have about 120 people. But we may decide to just do a small wedding like 50 people. I always wanted a Saturday night but I know that if I do a Friday or Sunday night it will be cheaper so I am open and flexible. I am looking for Labor Day weekend or Memorial Day weekend which is in season. I'm into the outdoors and would like to get married outside if weather permits it. We'll see maybe if I get married in 2013 that will allow more time to plan and save money?

This is ABSOLUTELY possible!! We're pulling it off!!! You can check out all my vendors. Feel free to FM me if you have questions. The only big sacrifice I we made is the getting married on Sunday instead of Saturday.

We're having around the same number of guests and like I said before it's totally something that can be pulled off for under 20K!! Some halls actually charge more for Sept weddings than for Spring weddings (BTW). Also memorial day and labor day fill up quick so try calling around because they get booked fast!!

Re: Total wedding Budget
We're trying to do the same thing - my parents are offering $20k for the wedding, but I feel like there HAS to be a way to not eat up that entire budget. I'll be using a lot of DIY sites as references and looking at RHs that come with packages - and there are actually a lot out there!

Re: Total wedding Budget
Your lucky that your parents are helping you! Have you looked at any halls yet? The Miller Place Inn, The Sands, Windows on the Lake, and The Sterling are so places I have seen that do packages. I like Miller Place Inn but my mom thought it looked old which it is because its a masion built years ago. She also bought the fact that its on a busy road so if you get married there outside you hear a bit of traffic. Windows on the Lake is nice and one wedding at a time but I found it odd that you have to cross the road to the ceremony but it is right on the water. The Sands I really liked but I have searched them and they are under new ownership and they DID not get good reviews which scares me! The sterling I felt was not my style and they have two affairs going on at one time. So I'm not sure if that bothers you? I didn't really care for the place where I would get married. I hope this helps! Let me know if you check out other places and what you think! We can both be on a mission to have a great wedding under 20k!

I definitely know I'm lucky - if they didn't pay for it, I'd probably honestly just elope My first in-person appointment is next Saturday with Fox Hollow, and I'm going armed with the list of questions someone posted in a recent forum here - things to ask the vendor, prices, potentials for half prices, etc, so I'm hoping we get a good deal!!

Re: Total wedding Budget
this is doable! Swan Club and Verdi's offered us the most reasonable quotes, and having an afternoon wedding on a Sunday will bring the costs down even more.
If you have friends who do photography and have seen their work, even better. We're using an acquaintance for photog, and she's charging us close to nothing. photog and flowers are a huge expense after the RH, but you can cut back on use of flowers with a little DIY...maybe silk flowers or hurricane lamps instead of the traditional floral bouquet.

The one good thing about working my wedding into a budget is -- i don't like flowers! I have ridiculous allergies, and I just think bouquets and centerpieces could be more fun than just flowers, so I won't be working a florist, except maybe to do MOB and MOG corsages

Re: Total wedding Budget
There's a few '12 DIY girls with a similar budget - it is definitely doable, esp if you can keep your guest list down.
If you're open to the day of the week/time it definitely will help. We're getting married the Sunday of labor day weekend during the day. I know when we were looking around a few places offered us an even better price for Labor Day itself (not sure if that's something you would want to do), but I figured I'd at least mention it in case it's something you may be interested in.
Also you can always consider getting married off-season, because that will help with price as well.

I have bad allergies too! I plan on having as few flowers as possible!

There are so many vendors on etsy who do beautiful things with paper bouquets and fabric&brooch bouquets...I don't think I'll be missing anything

My parents have offered us the same, and we feel the same way - lets not use it all if we can avoid it! It just feels too generous, we want to be respectful, especially since we are a little older and expected nothing from them. The Riviera was my dream location and their prices are AMAZING! They include TONS with their package - Check them out for sure. And with a little research it seems like we can pull this off. By keeping centerpieces small (and having only 2 bridesmaids) we are going to cut down on the cost of flowers. We love the location as it is, so we won't need much as far as decor. We are ordering invites from Invitations by Dawn, which has the most reasonable prices I've seen. We are also having the ceremony at the RH, cutting down on limo costs, and the cost for the Church or other venue. We went with a basic photo package (but with a Photographer WE LOVED! Gina Esposito, who unfortunately had since raised her prices, but check her out anyway) and no video (ew, hate myself on film!) We are not the kind of people who want any fancy DJ packages so that was cheap enough, and everything else is pretty much do it ourselves. Even things like cutting out favors saves major $$. We are making a reasonable donation to AHA in FH's mother's name and having relatives help with heart shaped chocolates to go with pretty little slips of paper explaining the donation. A fun girls' night out of the deal too!
Just decide what it is that's most important to you, and save on the things that aren't!

Re: Total wedding Budget
When we first got engaged, we assumed the whole thing would be around 20k...boy were we wrong. It's not that we had a budget of 20k, we just assumed. As we booked with vendors we liked, we adjusted what we thought. We're thinking it is going to be more like 35k now, which is not that unreasonable for a Long Island wedding in 2012, but we also didn't use the cheapest vendors and we definitely did not use the most expensive either. Like others have said, it depends on the amount of people you are having. It makes a huge difference.

I think I need some help with DIY cause my hall was pretty decent priced and with tax it was like almost $100 pp so with 130 thats already $13,000 and thats before everything else (dj, photo, video, officiant, limo, gifts, dress, shoes, tux, etc...) How are you guys doing this?! haha
