Totally insane to not take off on Friday if Im getting married on Sunday?
The reason I ask is because I cant only take off of work for a max of 10 days (2 work weeks)...I am really pushhing it with this and didnt even really ask but I know people have dont it before in my department and my boss wasnt that happy but dealt with it. So, if I take off on the Friday before my wedding which I always assumed I would, I have to come back the Friday of 2 weeks later. #1, this s*cks for obvious reasons and #2, if I have to come back that Friday, I am limited to a choice of 1 cruise which is still really nice and I would do it but there is another one that is cheaper by a couple hundred and I could see much more. So, even though Imk very organized, etc and plan on doing everything way in advance, Im sure its gonna be crazy that Friday, do you think I will regret it?

Does your company allow you to work on holidays and accrue those days as 'comp' days? I'm in a similar situation and was chatting with my boss about it. She said that since I only get two weeks vaycay (really, 10 days), I can work any and all holidays leading up to my wedding and accrue those days as comps and use them for my honeymoon. So much as it's going to blow working on New Year's Day/MLK Jr. Day/Presidents Day/Memorial Day, it'll all be worth it in the longrun. That's 4 extra days! We also get one paid day off from my company if we're getting married, to be used just before or just after the wedding, which I think is kinda cool.
So maybe, if your boss is understanding, you could suggest working on holidays?
However, if it doesn't work out, I think you'll be fine. You would still have that Saturday off for last-minute stuff if necessary.

unfortunately no i cant do this and honestly i know myself, i would never be able to last without taking the holidays leading up to the wedding. it would basically mean taking no days off from this coming July until next April, not that they would allow me to but i just couldnt so more power to you girl, lol! i mean i think its worth it be able to have the full 2 weeks after my wedding instead of having to come back on a friday and therefore rouine another 3 days of hm ( fri, sat and sun)...im just nervous that it will come to the friday before the wedding and i will freak out and have to take off and then i get in trouble at work, (they would of course know i wasnt really sick if i tried to pull that card) what does everyone else think? bumpideebumpp

Can't you call out sick on that Friday you would have to come back. I'm going to take close to 2 weeks off and I plan to call out sick the day before my vacation starts. But my boss is really cool with everything; so it's not a problem if I do this.

I'm getting married on a Sunday too and was just talking about whether or not to take that Friday before off. Can you take like a half day maybe so that at least you would go to work but be home early enough to get stuff done.

You know, I was thinking the same thing because I am getting married on a Sunday as well. I think I may take off because I know how I get (stressed out easily )so I'll probably just want an extra day to tie up any loose ends. Not sure yet how long my honeymoon will be though so may not be able to.

Gotcha. Seems like there are a lot of us Sunday brides
If it means that by working that Friday, you'll have a lot more options available to you in regards to your HM cruise, then I would say to strongly consider it. You've got a LOT of time to go and this website is such a great resource that you'll have your plans and checklists for all the last-minute details, you know? And you'll still have Saturday EVEN if you forget something - plus friends and family members who are bound to ask you a million times if they can help you with anything.

Basically it doesnt matter what i take or how i take it, i just cant take more than 2 weeks at a time at the very most. maybe i will plan to not take that friday and then that day, ill really lay it on how much stuff i have to do and then take a half a day...i could even pretend i got an emergency phone call that someone needs to be picked up at the airport or something, lol. I would rather do this then say im going to come in that friday at the end of the two weeks and then call in, they would sooo know the deal, plus id probally think 'f*ck it ' to myself while im still on my Hm, not call in at all and then really get into trouble, lol. thanks girls for the advice!

Honestly I don't know that I'll be taking off the Friday before my Sunday wedding. Well it depends on what job I am working at the time...if I am still at my current job it won't be an issue since I have Fridays off anyway...but if not then I'll probably just work Friday to have the time for the honeymoon.

I was thinking of taking that Thursday and Friday before the wedding just because I know I might need to handle final little details and try and relax some. I think you should take the Friday because you never know what will pop up and need to be taken care of. You'll also need to just relax and have some time for you before the wedding.

I would use the time towards my HM. You have a lot of time btwn now and your wedding to make sure everything is in order and if its not theres always saturday and help from ur family and BMs

Plan not to take off...that way in the weeks before you have it in your head that you're working and will make sure to get everything out of the way beforehand.

Me personally I would take off, but thats also because I'm taking the week off leading into my wedding, but thats because I have the holidays mixed in soo lots of craziness

um yes.. lol im getting married sunday and my normal day off is friday so thank god for that... but if you cant take off maybe you can do a hafl day?

I think it's sort of a personal issue.
I would want to take off, but that's because I'd be freaked out I wasn't done. If you think you can handle it, and you'd rather the second Friday, then that's totally fine. I think it's not insane, nor unheard of. I know we'd all love to be all wedding 24/7 for like 3 weeks before the wedding, but I don't know that that's always realistic.

I would use a sick day, but if she let it slide for others even though she wasn't happy about it, I would just do that. It's your wedding, she would be really mean not to understand.
