I've been on the fence as to whether or not I'll be inviting my boss to our wedding. I work closely with her, but she is older and we aren't friends - we just work together. It's strictly business. Meanwhile, I get home a few weeks ago to find a huge box from bloomingdale's in my hallway - she sent FH and I a wedding gift (like 8 months in advance) from our registry. A crystal frame. Very nice. Do I have to invite her now? It's so strange - she said she likes sending wedding gifts early so she has a wider selection off the registry. I really don't know what to do. Advice?

Re: Touchy situation - boss related
ugh. I am inviting three other women (with their sig others) - but 1 is a close personal friend, another is becoming a close personal friend (and I was invited to her recent wedding) and the other is a close friend. I'm not inviting, by any means, everyone in my dept or anything.

I'm in the same situation (minus the already sent gift). Looking forward to everyone's input.

She specifically said it was a wedding gift - which makes me think that she wasn't expecting to be invited. Now, if I invite her, does it look like I'm expecting another gift? I mean the frame was $75. This is insignificant, but I would love to keep our guest list down.

i'd say to invite her if you can afford it ... but if you can't, then don't.
i'm not going to be inviting my boss (i don't think he's expecting to be invited though)

Seems like the verdict is to invite her. if she comes, it is going to be SO WEIRD. I dont' even have her address - she is super secretive and private - she even sent the gift with our work address!! This just opens up so many cans of worms. Further advice is appreciated. Thanks ladies.

This makes it even weirder! I thanked her in person but, of course, will also be sending her a thank you card, but I guess I can't wait until I get my cards from our Photographer? SO, I have to send her a thank you card before the invite. She's really messing with me.

ITA, I would invite her if she sent a gift. Maybe she won't come. Do you like her?

Has anyone else at your workplace been married recently? I might fish around to see what others have done and if the same situation applies.

To answer Kristin - she's fine. To work with. We do not socialize outside of work and there is a very strict superior / inferior structure in place.
My friend was recently married and she invited me, another co-worker and her boss. I just emailed to see what she thought about my situation.
My wedding is on a Friday so she might not come - she doesn't like for us both to be out of the office at the same time. So weird.

Re: Touchy situation - boss related
honestly...my work ppl are b-list...and if i invite them, imm bring in the invites and delivering them that way/
i dont care if its tacky..because (1) im afraid to ask for addresses and then NOT invite them, and (2) i dont want to waste more $$ for s&h, and (3) my office is kinda small (8ppl) so if i invite 1 i need to invite them all
since its just your boss...i would say hand deliver it and just say 'i didnt have your address'.

It really is just common courtesy to invite your boss. She may not attend but will appreciate the gesture.

Re: Touchy situation - boss related
This is a touchy situation. Maybe she only got you a gift because she wanted to be nice and knew you were getting married. I would extend the invite to her now in hopes that she wont come. If you really cant afford it then I would tell her you wish you could invite her but your at your max already. Maybe write it in the thank you card if its awkward doing it face to face
