Touchy situation - boss related

Original post by CappyGirl

I've been on the fence as to whether or not I'll be inviting my boss to our wedding. I work closely with her, but she is older and we aren't friends - we just work together. It's strictly business. Meanwhile, I get home a few weeks ago to find a huge box from bloomingdale's in my hallway - she sent FH and I a wedding gift (like 8 months in advance) from our registry. A crystal frame. Very nice. Do I have to invite her now? It's so strange - she said she likes sending wedding gifts early so she has a wider selection off the registry. I really don't know what to do. Advice?

Honestly, I would invite her, especially since she already sent a gift. She will probably not come.

If she does, then maybe you guys can have a friendlier relationship?

If you choose not to invite her, I would send the thanks yous with all of the other ones.

I would just invite her - she might not come anyway.

Invite her, she probably won't show, especially if she sent a gift so far in advance!

i dont know. i'd say she is more likely to show... anyone who sends a wedding gift 8 months early is EXCITED about that wedding lol.

or was it an engagement gift?

hm. if you can afford to i'd just invite her. but if you can't, don't sweat it. sending a present before you're even invited doesn't buy your way onto the invite list. (not that i'm saying she was trying to do so. i think she's just being nice.)

at first i wanted to say..... just invite her and i bet i would end up doing that if i was in your shoes BUT, i think it was a little presumptuous of her to just go and purchase a wedding gift so soon and send it without receiving an invitation and that makes me mad at her.

I would invite her!! She obviously want to come!!! She might not even show up since it's on a friday,, but i guess it's the thought that counts.

Haha - I was thinking that she bought the gift so far in advance because she knew she wouldn't be invited and it didn't matter! The guest list is going to kill me, I think.

I would invite her. Things could get really awkward around the office if you don't. Maybe she won't go..but it can't hurt to invite her.

My boss is a 62 year old man so we're definitely not friends but I invited him and his wife and they came. I think it's just a nice gesture if you have a good working relationship.
