Townhouses in Long Island??

Does anyone know of any townhouse developements on the island? We are looking in western sufolk county, preferably near a train station. We are mostly concerned that it is a nice stable area, but schools are not important.

TIA:)

Re: Townhouses in Long Island??

We live in a townhouse in Oakdale, less then 5 minutes from Oakdale Station, 10 minutes from Ronkonkoma station. Our town is very stable, schools are great. There is a 3 bedroom 2 bath 1 car garage for sale on my street for $335k. We love it here, it might be a little too far east for you.

Re: Townhouses in Long Island??

How about Babylon? There is a townhouse development about 2 minutes from the RR station, or a condo development (that's where we are) that is exactly a 6 minute walk to the train station.

Re: Townhouses in Long Island??

My SIL's sister recently bought one in the Three Village (Setauket/Port Jefferson/Stony Brook) area for $300-$350K. That's a lot for a townhouse isn't it??!!

Re: Townhouses in Long Island??

unfortunately there don't seem to be too many affordable townhouses on LI. Believe me, we've looked! Mainly in Nassau though....the ones that are available are just as much, or sometimes even more than a house

Let me know if you find any! We need to be near a train station too!

Re: Townhouses in Long Island??

Thanks Everyone

I am somewhat surprised about the prices but the market is sooooo inflated right now. Our Jr 4 apt in bayside has increased in value by 25% in 18 months! We are trying to keep to suffolk b/c of the RE taxes in Nassau.

Teri, if I find anything I'll let you know.

Re: Townhouses in Long Island??

Christine, we are going into contract soon for a 2BR coop in Bayside, and we thought that one negative about it is that co-ops don't increase in value as much as houses. We plan on living there 5-7 years. From what you said, I guess that we can expect it to increase.

Re: Townhouses in Long Island??

Nina - We're in bayside too

My mother bought a 2BR co-op in bay terrace in 1992 and according to recent sales in her building - the value has at least doubled!!

But it really depends on the market. Right now it is a sellers market so the prices are much higher then the norm. Even with a house if you buy high, you never know what could happen.

Good luck with the purchase and going into contract!

Re: Townhouses in Long Island??

I cannot believe how expensive townhouses are getting!!! There are new ones in Miller Place selling for over $400,000!
I am actually moving into a townhouse in Port Jeff Vlg in Feb. but I think that would be a bit too far east for you. It is right near the train station though. Let me know if you want more info -
Good luck

Re: Townhouses in Long Island??

There are a few in Babylon (just north of Main St.), Strafford Green in Farmingdale (off of Rt. 24/Conklin), Cameo in Massapequa (Carmans Road), Hidden Lake Estates in Amityville (Merrick Rd. near Massapequa), there are a couple in Wantagh (Willow Wood, Stanford Court, Victorian), Quail Run in Deer Park and a few others in that town. FH and I just bought a townhouse in Wantagh and love it. We did so much searching!
