I HIGHLY recommend the Couch to 5K program - I started it 6 weeks ago and ran my first 5K this past Saturday.

I highly reccommend Hal Higdon's program. i used his program to train for the half marathons I have been running. I had no stamina before this. My friend uses his training programs to run the NYC marathon.

This 5k training for novice is 8 weeks. Link below.
