We are looking to take a honeymoon including a 4 day cruise. We were quoted the same price from the travel agent and from carnival- what is the benefit of using a travel agent instead?
the same price? I would go through the travel agent...
After our honeymoon I cannot tell you how glad we were that we used a travel agent...
we went to a small island in the mediterranean. We made a reservation at a hotel that DH's uncle worked at (on opening day no less!) well...the bumped us!! why? b/c we were Americans!! so the day we were leanign the travel agent tells us that the entire island is overbooked...but that they are still looking and they will call us at the hotel in our first city...
they called us and the girl (not my agent) on the phone was in tears...she told us that everyone in the office was looking for hotels for us!! and when she got the fax everyone was cheering!!
the whole time I was very relaxed...b/c the agent provided us with insurance...so worse come to worse we would be reimbursed and go an stay with DH's family...
why doesn't it cost you more? b/c the hotel/airline/cruiseline pays the agent 10% out of their pocket...not yours...b/c they recommended their business...
I know it was long...but I think youd get some added protection if you went through the agent...and something as big as your HM...you may want that...

Re: Travel agent question
I am a travel agent and 90% of the time our rates are alot better than what the c/l will give you direct. Once in a blue moon our rates will be the same and they we call up the c/l b/c this shouldn't happen. If you need help let me know I work mon, tue and fri.
