I'm going to take half of a 10 mg tablet to start off. I want to take it the night of my wedding, or else I know I'll be up all night, so the doc gave me this, but told me to try it out first. So, tonight's the night!

Re: Trying Ambien for the first time tonight....
Good luck to you!! Just relax and be calm, it should kick in within a half hr or so. I tried Ambien and it never worked for me, Lunesta either. I think my body was just too hyper when I tried using either one. I was going thru a stressful time and I needed a little push to help me fall asleep easier. Post tomorrow on how you feel when you wake up and good luck!!

Re: Trying Ambien for the first time tonight....
i take it.....it works for me in usally 25-30 mins. But for some reason when i do take it...once i feel like my body needs to rest i just go w. the flow and lay down and pass out only bc if i fight it for some reason my body does the oppisite and im awake allllllll night! Try not to take it too often either bc after 2 nights or so you may start to get sleepless nights as well!
i just filled my Rx for it...i'll prob take it tonight as well!
oh yea...make sure on the nights you do take it you allow 7-8hrs of sleep minimum! (You may wake up tired and a lil drosey but thats normal!)

See how you feel with it... I had a hard time with Ambien, I fell asleep within about a half hour but would wake up during the night.
So far, the best thing I've ever tried was Bayer PM. No groginess whatsoever, and just good rest.

Re: Trying Ambien for the first time tonight....
i take it almost every night - i have really bad insomnia
it kicks in within about 30 m inutes, but u have to relax, lie down, turn off the computer, etc
make sure you have 7 - 8 hours of sleep - if you get up and stay up after 5 or 6 hrs of sleep, you may feel groggy or have a headache
good luck!!

Re: Trying Ambien for the first time tonight....
be very very careful with ambien. make sure you can get AT LEAST 8 hours of sleep with it--if you get less, don't think about driving when you get up. it is still working in your system.
i have significant experience, both personal and research, with this drug and let me tell you--i wish it would be taken off the market. it can affect short and long term memory, impacts your moods, and is addictive, even though they 'claim' it's not.
please don't take it if you don't have to. you will sleep on your wedding night. i had insomnia for 7 years straight and even i slept on my wedding night for about 4 hours (had to wake up at 5am or i would have slept longer).
just please be careful. it's not the nice drug that the commercials make it out to be

thank you! I was okay this morning. I just want it for our wedding night because I know me... my anxiousness will wake me up at 3am, when I don't have to wake up until 8, and I don't want to be tired all day!
I will be careful. Thanks, again!

Re: Trying Ambien for the first time tonight....
watch out for that they say that if you use it even just a few times that in the future you may not be able to sleep the same without taking it... it's very strong.
try just old fashioned tylenol PM or what i do: children's dimetap lol it tastes good, isn't bad for you (just a simple cold med that it's ok if you take it w/o a cold) but it's way drousy so helps me sleep like a baby-- esp with a glass of wine
good luck, just a fyi!!

I take it sometimes. It comes in 5mg, too. I can break those in half and it STILL works! It does give me bit of a hangover, but it's not as bad if I take it early enough.

i second the tylenol PM....will knock you out for the night, you won't get addicted and no side effects to worry about.

Re: Trying Ambien for the first time tonight....
I recommend Melatonin.... It works like a charm and it's natural... it's something that is already in your body, but taking it in pill form just kicks it into high gear. You sleep very soundly and you wake up like you just slept for a week. hth!

Re: Trying Ambien for the first time tonight....
Be very very very careful with Ambien! My old roommate used to take it and she'd do strange things, sleepwalk. have long conversations with me that she wouldn't remember the next day, etc. One night she was hysterically crying about her boyfriend not proposing and we talked for awhile (I had a friend staying over too) and she had no recollection of it afterwards.

Yes, I've tried it dont ike it personally, but FH does take it, cause he has sleeping problems, as does his whole family. I prefer Nyquil, but he says the Ambien works, and he feels well rested, just make sure you get 7-8 hours of sleep, cause if you get less, you will probably feel groggy the next morning. HTH

Re: Trying Ambien for the first time tonight....
I would be careful with the Ambien. I know it works for some, but i have heard a lot of negative things about it including what many have said here. Most of us did not get a full night of sleep before the wedding. I know I didn't - but I never felt tired the whole day. Your adrenaline will keep you going, its like you are floating on a cloud that day. I really didn't even realize I was tired until it was time for bed - and then I totally crashed and probably got the best night of sleep ever! Anyway, be careful. I am not sure its worth playing around with prescription stuff.

Re: Trying Ambien for the first time tonight....
I think it's smart that you thought of this..I wish I had..I got NO SLEEP WHATSOEVER the night before my wedding. No, I wasn't tired or drowsy..I got through the day fine, but it added that extra anxiety..I worried that I would look horrible and like I got no sleep, I tried to sleep an extra hour in the morning and feel like i missed out on stuff like I was going to have breakfast with my parents It was an amazing day, but I definitely wish I had planned ahead like you!
