Are you putting the type of attire on your invitation? I believe I am going to have to. I plan to write 'Cocktail Attire'
#1 The name of my place may confuse people, for those who hadn't been there. I have a feeling people will think 'Irish Coffee Pub, oh that sounds really casual', especially with the 'Pub' in the title.
#2 My sister got married at the courthouse and had a restaurant reception. She didn't do invites because she did her wedding in 3 months. Our cousin brought her son, who is in high school, and he showed up in shorts, a t-shirt and sneakers in March! I think my sis originally invited our cousin and her husband, but he couldn't go. (She doesn't have custody of her first two kids from her first marriage, so I don't know if there was a miscommunication or something. I don't know, none of my business.)
Anyway, are any of you ladies putting the type of attire on your invites?

I am not, but for you, I think it's a good idea, I know when I first came to the forums, I had no idea what Irish Coffee Pub was. You can put it across the bottom of the other info (after the venue location and address) or you could do an insert card if you don't want it on the actual invite. Cocktail attire is less formal than black tie, so make sure you write what you'd like people to show up in!

I don’t think we’re going to include it on our invitations, but agree that it would be helpful for guests in your case.
Our ceremony is going to be on a dock so I’m going to give guests a heads up about that, but probably just by word of mouth and putting it on our website.

I have 'black tie optional' on my wedding website. This way people know its formal, but black tie is not a necessity

Yup! I think it's helpful for your guests. I'm sure they'd feel awkward if they were over/under dressed for a party and this way they don't have to ask you. Nothing like having annoying guests call your mom and say 'what kind of place is this 'pub'? What should we wear?'. That's even more annoying to deal with than just writing it.
We're doing black tie optional. My FMIL was worried b/c Bridgeview is a 'yacht club' that people would come in summer dresses in boat shoes and stuff. I don't think our friends would think that, but it's always nice to have.
On the other end of the spectrum, my friend had a very informal restaurant wedding and wanted to make sure people knew it wasn't a fancy wedding. She wrote 'dressy casual' for clothing on her invites which was great, so they knew it was not a true wedding reception, just an open house restaurant party.

I would write an attire for that venue, my brother was married there and I thought it would be casual as well. He wrote it on his invite and it worked out great!!

We put formal attire on our invites for the same purpose-- to let people know that black tie is a necessity. What's interesting is that we had a quite few invitees ask if tuxes were required and/or were the women required to dress in long black gowns. I was confused by the inquiries because we felt by saying 'formal attire' it would be clear that tuxes were not required. I realize now that it would have been more clear to write 'black tie optional', lol.

In your case, I would definitely put 'Cocktail Attire'. We're planning to put 'Black Tie Optional' because we're having a formal evening wedding and we have some not-so-classy relatives who may or may not show up in a t-shirt if not told otherwise ;)

I made my own direction cards and put attire on the bottom under the directions. It's a beach wedding but may be more formal than people think so I thought it was necessary so no one came in swim suits.

I think for ours we are putting 'Semi-Formal' Attire or possibly cocktail. I want men to wear suits (preferably not tuxes as the groom and groomsmen will not even be wearing a tux), and women to wear long or short dresses.
We put the attire on our website not on the invite..gentleman jackets required sinc black tie means tuxedo to us and I don't expect my male guests to wear a tuxedo but I do expect males to wear suits..for ladies we said evening elegant again only on the website..I didn't feel it was appropriate to write the attire on my invite so that's why I included on my website

Thanks ladies. Good to know I'm not the only one.
I could make my wedding 'formal attire', but I think that 'cocktail attire' is more of the feel I'm looking for. (FFIL is old school Italian and believes in dressing up. He wears a full suit to funerals and just about any special occasion. Plus, he used to play in a wedding band, so he would know.)

We are putting formal attire or black tie optional because my FI's family always shows up to functions in jeans and t-shirts and I will literally hurt someone if they show up in jeans/t-shirt.

Haha, yeah my FH said if anyone showed up in casual dress, he will toss them out. Or he'd have his best man do it.

I am planning on putting either formal attire or black tie optional on our invites. We will have alot of people from out of town coming in so I just want everyone to be on the same page. I will also hurt someone if they come to my wedding in jeans, shorts, or t-shirts.
