Ugh!

Ugh!

OMG! I had the WORST FRIKKEN DAY AT WORK!

Basically, they provide a tuition reimbursement program but most employees go to community colleges where those reimbursements are fairly low.. They've N E V E R stated anything about a cap on the reimbursement and the President of the company even knew I was applying to the school she graduated from.. Hofstra! We sign a Personnel Policy every January and I still have mine.. it NEVER stated anything about a cap..

So I submitted my bill (which is over 10k for this semester) and they let me know that there is a cap for 5k that was added in June..

OH REALLY?! So where was it in January when I signed for the manual? How come no one was told that it was added?

I am beyondddddd annoyed right now!!!

(Mind you, that cap will be fine for those that attend those community colleges!)

They totally are trying to screw me!

That is crazy! I would be pissed off! If you signed your contract in Jan and this new rule took effect in June then they should still reimburst you because it was AFTER u signed. Id fight it! Good luck! Hope it works out

That really stinks! You should definitely fight them being it was changed and you never signed an addendum and you weren't made aware of the policy. Act super professional and make your statement heard and I'm sure you'll get your point across. Hopefully they'll work something out for you. Good Luck!

Thats ridiculous! If this didnt take effect until June then they should reimburse u for the full 10k, then when u sign the new contract in January they can put the 5k cap in there. U can totally fight them on this if u have a copy of ur contract!

I hate when company's try loop-holes like that. My job only gives us up to $1000 reimbursement and I'm sure they'll find a way to screw me since I'm only working part time now

Re: Ugh!

I'm jealous that you work somewhere that gives tuition reimbursement at all!! That totally sucks that they changed it mid year... maybe discuss it with your HR department?? Perhaps they can make an exception for this year? I also went to Hofstra... are you going for your Masters there?

If you signed before they initiated it..you should technically be grandfathered in I would think . . .

I did & they're agreeing to pay this semester.. but as of Jan it changes to 5k a year!

I haven't decided what I'm doing yet.. FH is super supportive because he knows I loveeee Hofstra..

I just can't believe the company did that.. I pictured myself there forever & now I'm dreading tommorow.

This is what they chose to do.. still sucks but at least I'm not forced to pony up 10k in January!

HR was in on the whole thing.. They're the ones who update the manual..

I <3 Hofstra!!!! I'm undergrad, I transferred there upon graduation at SCCC!! I'm doing their accounting program so hopefully I'll be finishing up my Masters there.. *Fingers Crossed*

Re: Ugh!

Good luck with Hofstra!! My FH is enrolled in SCCC right now actually. I know quite a few people that were in accounting at Hofstra, and their business school is pretty outstanding. If you ever need any Hofstra help, just let me know!
