I got pulled over, and got a TICKET! stupid state police officer! now,I am complaining I am the daughter of two cops and have a badge and card. And although I hardly get pulled over, when I do, I usually get a warning. this guy pulls me over- tells me I was going 77- on the Meadowbrook and I was in the left lane but I wasnt going 77... but i didnt complain. i pull out my license, he sees my detective card, asks whose it is- I told him it was my dads- he asks whereI am coming from- I said school- Im a teacher. He basically said he was just going to run my license to see if I am clean and I said fine and he comes back with a ticket!!! I dislike P.O. Clifford the State Police officer- then he speeds away and pulls someone else over! I was so happy that vacation finally has started and it has to start like this. I feel like pleading not guilty just for the he&& of it. I honestly dont think I was going 77.. I saw him parked ahead of me..
Anyway, enough of the bit%& fest....

I was just posting to vent about getting a ticket on the day before vacation when I didnt feel like I deserved a speeding ticket- I did not ask for a debate about the use of cards and badges. you cant even do that on here anymore!!!

Vent away hun...some people still care what others have to say...
As far as the 'perks' of being a member of a policemans family..yes I definately do say that we deserve something out of the very hard lifestyle that we have to live. I respect the opinions of others and I am not here to try to sway anyone but I know from personal experience that cops get hardly ANY PERKS AT ALL! They get spit on, ridiculed, shot at, abused in the streets all because they are cops. There is no feeling in the world like dreading that phone call at night that your father has been killed in the streets, or that your uncle has been thrown off a rooftop while in pursuit of a murderer..there is nothing like growing up without a father because his schedule was so insane that he was never even around for christmas half the time...there is nothing like sharing your family member with the 'force' only to have it mess up their heads in the end. If my familys one perk is to carry out a card and a badge that the department LEGALLY HANDS OUT to family members..then so be it. Its just one thing that they can do for us. I have never used my card or badge to get out of situations where I knew I was wrong and the times that it was used..it was seen by the cop first and recognized and respected.
Until you are the family member of a police officer, I dont think you can fully understand us.

A lot of jobs have perks - you work at a store - you're getting discounts - you're a stockbroker - you always know where to invest your money! I know someone who's dad is a dentist and has always written his family scrips for basic stuff so they don't have to see the doctor. Ethical - maybe not always - but that's life and the way it is. There are plenty of people out there who dont have the courage, demeanor, personality, call it what you want to be a police officer or a fireman - we're lucky that enough do! When my FIL is putting his life at risk every day or my DH is getting out of his warm bed at 4 AM to answer a fire call because someone left a pot on their stove...that's what we need to remember.
I'm off my soapbox now!

I got pulled over, and got a TICKET! stupid state police officer! Now,I am complaining because I am spoiled. I am the daughter of two cops and have a badge and card. This is the craziest thing because I got pulled over two weeks ago,on the meadowbrook and by the same STATE TROOPER CLIFFORD!! OMG! I also am going to marry a cop,two brother in laws are cops and he asked me the same, where and blah,blah....do I have any tickets and if my license was suspended. I say no, and he came back with not one but TWO tickets! One for supposedly speeding coming off a ramp doing over 55 and I couldnt be going that fast since I was coming off a ramp. 2nd for not directional on changing my lane after coming off the ramp. That is the only one I was guilty of. Well, too bad for Clifford cause its being TAKEN CARE of!!!! How crazy is that??? Clifford needs to respect others PBA!
ETA:kdelace, make it a point to have someone take care of it. I did on my end. Do not pay!

im definately going to see what I can do.... that was my whole point of my thread. i wasnt going 77 miles an hour and he did the same thing to me!!! By the time I got back on the parkway, he had someone else pulled over. Is he a rookie looking for brownie points? is he trying to prove a point?? thats what makes me so mad is that i honestly wa snot going the speed he told me I was going. Id d you get the new ticket? its on computer paper like fax paper!

Re: ugh! driving home and was so happy until...
going off topic a bit, but I hate obnoxious cops. I was fighting a ticket once (for something that is NO LONGER illegal in my town because they repainted the lines on the road)Anyway, there was this one woman there. She said that she's there every 2 weeks to fight seatbelt tickets.
She picks up her kid from school and this one cop gives her a seatbelt ticket. She has a doctor's note stating that she can't wear a seatbelt because she had stomach surgery. So, every two weeks, she goes to court with the pile of tickets and the judge basically voids them out because of the doctor's note. But, the cop keeps giving her the tickets every day and she keeps going back to court.

IMO -- if you were going faster than the speed limit, you deserve to get a ticket --not saying you were, only you know if you were.
same thing with the cell phone and seat belt rule, if you break the law, you pay the fine
i hate when people use things like badges and shields, that they really shouldn't have unless they are from that profession, to get out of tickets
same thing with handicap passes. i know people that will take a grandparents handicap pass to get a good spot at the mall and screw someone out of it that could use it.
JMO
Nothing worse than almost getting hit by someone talking on their phone and not paying attention to the road!!!! Those tickets should be higher than what they are!!

Hey, aren't there always hospitality nights at bars and resteraunts where people get discounts, does your family ever come in and get a discount? Maybe throw them a little extra on the plate? Whatever, like someone already stated every job has perks and if you don't have a cp in your family you will NEVER understand. It's a pointless hijacked debate.
KD-I am so sorry about that, they only ticket I have ever gotten was from a state trooper on the meadowbrook...those guys don't seem to care. However, when I went to court for it it was reduced from the speeding (which I think was at about the 77 mark) to a non-moving violation. Go to court and make sure the lawyer person (sorry I can't think of thier offical titles because I have not had coffee yet) knows your family of the badge...if you can bring the actual badge holder with you I think it might even be better.

Kristi I am sorry that you couldn't even vent without all the people feeling the need to express their opinions on this thread.
If they wanted to start a debate about this they should have started their own thread and kept is ALL on there. This was a thread about venting.
Kristi- hopefully you can fight it

well said my man well said
by the way, kristi, you mentioned earlier that 'you are sure that if i had a badge, I wouldn't be posting saying that you deserved a ticket'
FYI -- my dad worked for the courts, so he had all of that stuff and offered to get me a badge and shield for when i was driving. I turned him down -- I'm not a cop, so I shouldn't get treated special when I don't deserve it.
Same thing with the handicap pass. I have access to several through family -- I don't use them, it's wrong.
Yes, perks exist. But there's a difference between a chef giving a family member a free cupcake, and a cop who gives away badges and shields to people so they can break the law and get away with it.
As for you, if you feel you were not speeding, I say fight. But to say 'if I had known I was getting a ticket, I would have whipped out my shield' is wrong IMO. If you weren't speeding fine. But, when you break the law, you need to pay up, perk or not.
IMO

Everyone needs to get over it!!!
Cops will always hand out badges and cards, accountants will always do free taxes for family, chefs will always give away 'cupcakes', physical therapists will always give free therapy to family, teachers will always tutor family members for free, the list could go on and on....IT IS JUST THE WAY THE WORLD IS!!!!
If I could help out a family member through my work I most certainly would.

there is a huge difference between free cupcakes and breaking the law..there is a cell phone law for a reason. If you break it you should pay..if a cop gets discount tickets to Disney then great he should take his whole family..but a perk should not be a cop's daughter getting away with breaking a law

thunderous applause janice
hey, i know it's the way of the world
an accountant gives out free tax advice to family a guy that works in a butcher brings home free meat
that's cool
but when you have a job and you give a family member a perk that can help them avoid a fine when they break the law, that, to me, is wrong
now i'm not saying kristin was going 77 miles an hour AT ALL. I don't know, I wasn't there, but I believe her that she wasn't speeding, in which case, fight them as much as you have to.
I was just alluding to the fact that she put that had she known she was getting a ticket, she would have shown the detective shield. To me, that is wrong. If you feel you are in the right, then fight, but don't use someone else's title to your benefit.
As for the comments on the right to vent, I respect your opinions that she should have the right to vent. But, when you post on a public forum, where everyone, including me, has the right to voice an opinion, you have to be prepared to hear opinions. If you don't feel like hearing opinons, then you shouldn't post.
I'm not saying I'm right or that any of you are wrong -- I'm voicing an opinion, which I have the right to do.
And I don't really see this as a drama thread at all. I have enjoyed reading everyone's opinion and I think it is a great topic for discussion.

Re: ugh! driving home and was so happy until...
Ok, Kristi, fight the ticket. Not because your dad's a detective, but because you weren;t going over 77mph!
As someone who has been in 2 car accidents, and had a LOT of things in her life ruined, taken away, effed up because of someone ELSE driving like a complete idiot, I kind of LIKE it when people get tickets they DESERVE.
Everyone gets BS tickets. I mean, none of us stay below the speed limit at all times, sometimes you forget to signal, etc, and so, hey, if you can get out of those tickets, go right ahead. I have a PBA card, my mom has a badge, neither of us has ever used them..I got my ticket lowered in the courts...
but there are some people who habitually break the law and if you're a cop and you see a sheild or a PBA card, you don't know if this is like the ONE annoying ticket this person is gonna get in his life, or if this is the 20th time you're letting someone off for speeding before they go off and injure or kill someone, so there are 2 sides to every story...
I've been badly injured by people just driving stupidly and recklessly, and it would burn me so much to think that those people had gotten off of countless deserved tickets because of a sheild of PBA card.
