Ugh, need advice girls.

Ugh, need advice girls.

So, just when I think I have my dress picked and I'm jumping for joy, I bring my mom to see it. Note: my mom does NOT like lifts on the front of a dress AND she envisions me in a Princess tulled-out dress that just DOES NOT look good on me.

So, of course, this dress has lifts in the front. The NICE thing about them, which my mom agrees, is that since the dress isn't made of silk or satin, the lifts are light looking and are held up by beading, which gives it a nice touch. My mom LOVES the corset and the train (she's in LOVE with the train in fact) but I can tell that she's not crazy about the bottom/front of the dress. I didn't get the feeling I was hoping from her. So, should I order it and go with my feelings or look some more since I have time? I found one other dress I liked, but don't really remember how it looks on since I didn't get any pics. Should I go back and try it on?

Did anybody else's mom do this to them? What did you do? TIA

A lot of girls are going to tell you to buy what you like but obviously your mom's feelings matter to you.

I say shop around since you still have time and if you constantly compare all other dresses you try on to this one, you know it should be yours regardless of what mom thinks...

I think you should go with your gut....if you love it get it!!! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

i agree, i think you should go with your gut. if you got 'that feeling' just try to explain that to your mom.

well i am kinda torn on this... for one thing- it is your wedding and you need to feel like your dress is the exact one you want and it has to make you feel like a princess... but then again- if you were hoping for your mom to be as happy with it as you are, and she isnt- then you wont be completely happy with it... so if i were you i would probably keep the dress in your mind for now but also go out and look around more and see if you find something you both think is definitely the one for you... i hope you can find one.. but if your mom will not completely agree with you on one then you need to just do what you feel is right and what makes you the happiest... she will get over it.. good luck!

If you are 100% about the dress, go for it.
But if your mom's opinion is very important for you- try something else.

Its your wedding and you should wear what you love. I know your moms opinion means a lot but you should be completely happy with your gown and if you got that feeling from it, then go for it. When your mom sees the whole ensemble the day of the wedding, Im sure the lifts will be the last thing on her mind...

Thanks for your advice.....my mom told me to order the dress too...she likes it a lot. She just didn't give me that reaction I hoped for. I know I have to be happy....she thinks I'm nuts for even thinking about NOT getting it because of this lol

I didn't get the best reaction from my mom either when I found my dress. Honestly, my mother was the reason it was so hard to find a dress, clearly we had differing opinions. I say if you found the dress you love, get it.

i say try on a few dresses just to make yourself feel better about your decision. If you try on 10 more dresses and still keep going back to the one you love..then go with it!!!!! It's important that you love what you wear that day..but since your mom's opinion means so much and it is obviously bothering you trying on other dresses wouldn't hurt and may make you feel better about what you pick in the end knowing you shopped around!

good luck

honestly--i think if you LOVE your dress--you should go for it.

perhaps its hard for mom to give up the dream she has for YOUR dress, but i'm sure no matter what, on the big day, she will love it cause her daughter will be wearing it on her wedding day.

ETA: just wanted to say--i accientally found my gown when i went browsing one day w/a friend. i had a fear of trying on dresses, and figured i'd try on a few to get over this paranoia--and i found it. my mom was a little upset that we didn't dress shop together, but i took her there 2 days later and showed her the dress---she didn't give much opinion on it, and while it bothered me, i ordered it anyway. in the end--she loved it

your wedding is your once in a lifetime event, please get what you like, i know you love your mom and respect her opinion, but you need to go with your gut and get your dream dress, you'll be so beautiful she wont even notice the lifts she'll only notice you.

I pretty much have the same problem with my mom. I found a dress I really love but she was 'eeehh' about it. She says its because the sample is ivory and she has problems envisioning them in white. But i think she was trying to be nice.

I not ordering my dress til December so I will have time to check out the new dresses that come in, but if i dont like any other dresses more than this one, im just going to order the one I like in white.

Has she seen you in a princess tulle type gown? Maybe if she sees that it doesn't look good on you, she may back off. I think ultimately it's about whether or not you love it...but I do understand that you want your mom to love it too.

My mom nitpicked every single gown I tried on. But ultimately, I went with what I wanted. It wouldn't hurt to go with your mom to try on some more dresses though.

my moms opinion 'it's different' She says she likes it but she has to get use to it. it 'growing' on her. but the bottom line is that I love it and I am going to wear it. I dont care what other people think.

good luck.

and just remember 'The bride is always right'
