I would have to agree with FH.....children are children.....I love my nieces and nephews like they are my own children and would never not help with them...even at a party for myself. At our engagement party, my FH carried one of the twins around most of the day. . . .she loves her uncle steve! Everyone at the party thought it was the cutest thing...I had one twin, he had the other. Children sometimes dont know better....but get excited at parties....

Gotta be careful on these boards....if you go against the masses you get lynched sometimes!

Glad to see there is an understanding bride who REALLY wants peoples opinions rather than just what she wants to hear! It's refreshing!

If you don't feel comfortable saying something, at least for the pictures you could make your photog aware of the situation and he can be the one to tell her to get out of the pics (but in a nicer way).

I kind of agree with you in a sense and then again I don't.

I agree when her mom should havve been watching her and not you. It's your shower and you are supposed to be the center of attention - meaning all eyes on you and all attention to you. Yet we had to kind of babysit her and you had to be the one to tell her to step aside. That shouldnt be your responsibilty.

Then again kids will be kids. They dont know any better- only what their parents teach them and they're still learning.

Just learn from past problems. IT's good that you told FH. It's not fortunate that he got upset but he should see your point of view. It might cause some tension but when's he ready, talk to him again.

At least it happened now and not on your wedding day. I would be upset if every single one of my wedding pic had my FG. As much as I love her to death, I want pics with FH alone.

You are 100% right!!!!!!!!!!! I would feel the same way.... Absolutely have FH bring it up and address before hand. I would also but a few of your BM's in charge of making sure she is not crowding you... I know you are upset now about the eparty & shower- but after this is all over- you will look at those pics and LAUGH Good thing you realized this too before the wedding....

yeah i dont think anyone is blaming the little girl, like you said they are children and just dont know better, the problem is the mother should know better and is the one who should've handled the situation. Personally if i went to somebodies party and i had a kid and saw that they were sitting there with somebody for way too long and especially the person who the party was for then i would take my kid away. I would especially not let my kid be fed by the person whose party it was, i would be like OMG its your party enjoy it by sitting down relaxing and eating and conversating with your guests.

Maybe its me, but I would not mind feeding my niece or nephew or having them hang around..I love them like they are my own. I would not have asked them to be in the wedding otherwise. I know they wont be in every picture that is taken but I also know that kids get excited. I let my nieces open up some of my engagement presents and they had a blast, I also had a blast watching them help me open presents. I guess to each their own.

There is nothing wrong with you.... i totally understand where you are coming from. I would not stress to much about the wedding pictures b/c your photog will not have a problem telling your niece to get out of the way.... you photog has a job to take pictures of you and FH and he will do anything he can to make sure they come out beautiful... i wouldnt worry!!!

I love kids and when im at parties i always play with them and dont mind doing things like feeding them but at the same time when its my party things are different bc i am supposed to go around and talk to guests...also i barely got to eat at my e-party i kept having to run over for a few bites and never really got to sit down and even eat the whole thing and most ppl say this about their weddings too...its not a bad thing to play with the kids dont get me wrong, but tilde said that the little girl stayed with her the ENTIRE party and even for her eparty she has no pics of just her and FH, this is when the situation gets a bit different.

no, i agree with you.

I have a 7 year old and the kids don't realize when their being annoying. looking at those pictrues break my heart b/c she's excited, you know?

the mom should know better but tilde, if you dont voice it, she would never know that you feel this way.

you are NOT wrong for feeling this way. I think I'm a little more sympathetic to your FSIL(?) and FG b/c I HAVE a child and know how they *are*

I had a cousin like that during my baby shower and bridal shower and it didnt really bother me much b/c i knew how excited they were... but i can see how someone might find it annoying.

no you shouldnt bc the truth is you have to talk to other guests, i mean they're all there for you and if youre spending all your time playing with a kid and babysitting them then its very hard to do so. Many guests will get offended

I am sure that at every other party you go to where there are kids, you don't mind cutting up their food, taking them to the bathroom, letting them sit with you, etc. It's just these very few times that you are looking to just do what you want to do (engagement party, shower, wedding). You want to open gifts, walk around and talk to people, take pictures alone, etc. I think the overall consensus is that you shouldn't HAVE to say something to your nieces mom, should should know to not pawn her child off on anyone else for the day, ESPECIALLY the GUEST OF HONOR!!!

Re: ugh there is something wrong with me

just to clarify two things

as danielle said at all the other parties i AM the caretaker for someone - a niece nephew, maybe all of them! i think it is great when a parent gets to bring their kids to a family event and get a break

the funny thing is that if the event was for my FSIL i would be the one taking her daughter and making sure that she didnt have to do anything at her own party

also, i totally don't blame the little girl - lol i did for a minute but that was just a moment of insanity. . . of course, i think that the parents or grandparents should have noticed me telling her to move 10x and should have taken the initiative to say 'oh come sit over here!!' that's all but its like everyone was just oblivious you know?

EXACTLY!!! if i was at someone elses shower i would stay with a kid the whole time, feed them and take care of them and not care at all, for my own shower its not what i want to do, not only that but when i do it i do it by choice, i dont want to be forced to do it...i am sorry but if a parent comes to a party of mine and says oh here take care of my kid, feed them and take them to the bathroom i would find that extremely rude like uhmmmm you came to MY party to relax and take a day off from your kid but at MY party you basically left me to take care of them? PLUS i love kids but i know its hard for some to believe but not everybody likes kids and what if its someones party who doesnt like kids and doesnt want them near them, people have to be considerate of that.
