Ugh, Vent about FMIL!

Ugh, Vent about FMIL!

My FMIL is always making comments about money with me. She seems to think that I am a spoiled brat who spends too much money. It's sooo annoying when she makes her comments, but whatever, usually its about my clothes and purses.

So I spent the weekend at FH's parent's house and anytime I mentioned ANYTHING about the wedding and something I want, she'd be like, 'Well that's too expensive.' I said I might want to look into a string orchestra to play for the ceremony, and automatically she says...'oh, well thats REALLY expensive!' She doesn't even know the prices!! I don't even know the prices, but I still can look into it. I mention the DJ, too expensive (she honeslty thinks a DJ will cost under $800!!) It is just sooo frustrating when she makes those comments with no basis to back it up. GRRRRRRRRRRRR

I guess that's what mother in laws are for! Is she paying for any part of the wedding? If not, I'd tell her to keep her comments to herself. Tell her, it's not your money we're spending, so don't worry about how much it costs. Maybe this is a little harsh, but I tend to be more than blunt with everyone I meet!

Ugh...There's the part of me that says tell her to mind her own business, but then there's the other part of me that says you're marrying in to the family, why go into it with problems.

My thoughts exactly! That's why I come on here to vent about her. I don't even want to vent to FH, because it is his mother and he loves her. Plus, she is actually a really good FMIL, as far as IL's go. Its just the money comments that bother me, other than that, I think I am pretty lucky!

hugs

FILs live out of state and don't have a clue what things cost in NY. They thought a DJ probably costs $200-300

They aren't contributing to the wedding, so I haven't really found any reason to tell them what things cost.... safer that way!

Maybe you can talk to FH and have him talk to his mom.... maybe she just really doesn't realize how much things are. I know my dad was out of the loop with prices until I sat him down and told him.... that is so annoying with the purses and stuff though.... it is your money!!!

I dont think you need to discuss anything wedding related with heranymore. She has nothing good to say about it anyway. You can still be nice to them without talking about your wedding planning. JMO

With someone like that, just don't tell them anything anymore! She'll be dying to know, and if she asks, you can politely say that you were tired of her making comments about the cost of your wedding

either dont talk to her about anything... or give her the numbers so she can see excatly how much everything is... i'd be blunt and say to her it really isnt any one her concern how much everything will be.. (if you are paying for it) tell her that you're paying for it... but i dont think you want to get on her bad side.. lol

You have to learn how to ignore people and their antics. It seems to me like she is set in her ways and it won't change. And, even though things she says to you, learn to brush it off. Because if you take everything she says to heart you will get stressed out.

i totally know what you mean, i sometimes feel as if FPIL think that i spend money to, but i just ignore it beacus eits my money not theirs. I dont mention the wedding to them at all because they don't listen to what i say, just tell me how they think it should be done, to the point where they are telling me who my BM's should be Don't let her get to you. I think you should limit how much u mentio to her about ure wedding, that way she wont always put her 2 cheap cents in.
