You think that's tacky? listen to this one...

My sister in law's parents were invited to a wedding a few years ago and the invitation said $250 per person minimum....can you imagine the balls some people have

I can only imagine that 5 people showed up to her wedding then!

Wow...I've never seen that. People really do amaze me sometimes. Unless they have absolutely no way of transporting gifts after the wedding, that's an obscure request.

I say if you and FH aren't into going, then skip it and send a small gift as a nice gesture.

Re: Unreal

you're totally right. i'm not registering because no one i know except for 4 people from FH's side will actually look at the registry but i don't care what people bring to the wedding. it's a gift. as long as it comes from the heart then i don't care. box or envelope i'll take it and thank them.

My mouth hit the floor when I heard that, I really do wonder how many people showed up

Re: Unreal

I've NEVER heard of such a thing! Not only would I NOT go, I would send a gift (cheap, not from registry) wrapped in a GIFT BAG and say, 'Sorry we are unable to attend your wedding. Please accept this BAGGED gift as a token of your thoughtfulness in inviting us!' HA HA HA

That is UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Re: Unreal

It's rude and presumptious, and if she's a NY'er, she should know better anyhow . . . . she could've left that out and been better off, but now she's probably annoyed every invited guest!!

I always give cash, but for her, I think I'd find either the smallest or biggest box I could get!! That is, as you called it . . . UNREAL!!!

Why not tell her, 'we put a few hundred in a box, but then realized you didn't want boxed gifts, so we left it at home.'

honestly---i wouldn't get upset over it or anything. she's obviously rude and classless and not worth it

RSVP 'No' and just don't go. why would you even BOTHER attending a wedding of someone you don't like and your FH can't stand? just move on

i feel like i have to go. i dont want to and i totally agree with everything you said, but i still feel like i have to. I mean, we were still close enough that when she got engaged i really thought I was going to be in her bridal party (she was in mine when i was engaged a few years ago, so aside from us having drifted i thought she would ask me because of that alone, but she didnt. which i am so totally ok with).

Only question at this point is if I am going to get her something off her registry as a gift or give her a check and put it in a fairly large box. Either way, she's getting a box - thats for SURE.

I would politely decline. Not because of her faux pas (some well-meaning people do tacky and rude things) but because I would only attend a wedding if I'm truly happy for the couple. I also don't go if I think the groom (or bride) is a disgusting person or if I think the marriage is doomed. Maybe I'm wrong but I think attending a wedding is a show of your support and love for not only the individuals involved but for the union that's being formed. JMO

Wow. For her to admit the reason why too is disgusting. She's obviously throwing a wedding for money.

That is horrible!

I am going to be happy to get any gifts, cash or otherwise. I know not everyone can afford to give a check!

I agree!!! I am not inviting peple for their $$$!!!!

It reminds me of the 'Rich Bride, Poor Bride' episode where the FH rented a cash machine to have at his wedding 'just in case people don't bring enough money!!!!!!' How classless is that????

Re: Unreal

I received one of those invites from someone and was offended that an actual wedding invitation dictated to me what kind of gift I ought to give. To be honest, I wound up not going (for more reasons than that, including distance) and didn't send a gift.

If you go or maybe just drop off 20 boxes, wrap them in christmas paper!!

Re: Unreal

What. I mean dont get me wrong I would rather cash but I would not put that on the invitation. If people ask what you would like you can say whatever works for you (meaning cash lol) but you can not actually put that on the invitation. Even I am not that rude (and I can be rude!)

A wedding gift should never be assumed.......people are invited to a wedding to share in the joy of your love and future together. If there are gifts, it's just a great bonus at the end of an amazingday.........the day is the true gift the couple receives.

Re: Unreal

You say you don't really care about this person and yet you just spent a few paragraphs trashing her. I think it sounds like you do care. This site is for brides helping brides. Why don't you enjoy your life and if someone annoys you as this person obviously did, feel sorry for her and move on and decline the invite. Why start a post about it? Just seems kind of childish. I'm seeing people post things about how to personlize a wedding when a parent has died or helping people out and I have to be honest, this post just left me with a sour taste and feeling like I was back in the 5th grade. Sorry. But that's how it came across.
