Unreal

Original post by BeLissa

So I am sure this topic has been discussed before, but I am completely shocked and honestly a little disgusted (but that comes more from the girl than the situation at hand).

I got a wedding invitation from a girl who I used to be really good friends with but have drifted apart in our friendship over the past couple years surrounding events that have occurred between us that could honestly make me care less at this point. That doesnt really have any bearing on the situation, but just based on our particular friendship and the kind of person she is, this irks me. She had the b@lls to put on her wedding invitation 'no boxed gifts'. i mean, REALLY??? I think thats quite possibly the rudest most presumptuous thing I have ever heard in my life. who the he!! are you to tell me what i give you as a GIFT. Its a gift, you take what ppl give you and thank them graciously whether you like it, need it, want it or not. I honestly cannot believe she had the nerve.

FH hates her, like to the point where he doesnt want to go to the wedding (or her 3 1/2 HOUR ceremony - but thats another topic) and he wants to get her something and put it in a TV box, and i cant say I disagree one bit. Makes me want to get her something boxed - and not something from her registry.

sorry so harsh, but this chick needs a reality check in all aspects of life and thats probably where the abrasiveness is coming from, but aside from that i just think its rude to put 'no boxed gifts' on your wedding invitation - am I alone???

You say you don't really care about this person and yet you just spent a few paragraphs trashing her. I think it sounds like you do care. This site is for brides helping brides. Why don't you enjoy your life and if someone annoys you as this person obviously did, feel sorry for her and move on and decline the invite. Why start a post about it? Just seems kind of childish. I'm seeing people post things about how to personlize a wedding when a parent has died or helping people out and I have to be honest, this post just left me with a sour taste and feeling like I was back in the 5th grade. Sorry. But that's how it came across.

oh jeez...... gimme a break. Its a FORUM, and I was sharing something that i thought was ABSURD. not a first my dear. If you dont like it, dont respond. i am helping other brides - sharing how unbelievably tacky it is to ask for money on their invitations, ya know in case any of these classy ladies were considering it.

and FYI, i am one of those brides trying to figure out a way to incorporate the loss of my mother into my ceremony - so DONT go off on me about what i should post about and what i should not.

I gotta be honest... if this girl's post upset or offended you then I don't think this forum is the place for you. People share their opinions here and you'll hear worse if you stick around. I didn't see a problem with this post at all but if I had, I probably just wouldn't have responded.

HOW RUDE!!! I would bring a gift, such as the vase or a frame and just wrap it in wrapping paper or put it in a gift bag! Hey, she said no 'BOXED' gifts!

this is EXACTLY what we would do!

I'd buy her a gift & stuff it in a gift shopping bag... it's not in a box!!!!

LOL I'm thinking the same thing (only worst). Put 'NO' on the RSVP and send her stuff from CVS (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, popcorn).

i just dont understand why you would waste your time, money, or effort attending this wedding. you obviously dont like the girl, and your FH hates her, so why go? just because you were friends at one point doesnt mean you have to attend her wedding, or invite her to yours. I say cut your losses, RSVP no, and dont talk to the girl again.

All I know is that this bride to be is not a LIW'er because we would have torn her into pieces if she had mentioned this.

Hey it could have been worse. She could have requested 'Checks made payable to CASH' LMFAO

A wedding gift should never be assumed.......people are invited to a wedding to share in the joy of your love and future together. If there are gifts, it's just a great bonus at the end of an amazingday.........the day is the true gift the couple receives.

This is so true! As much as I love weddings, they have become so many people's ways of raking in the money! This is supposed to be a wonderfully special day spent with your loved ones!

i talk to this girl all the time, esp since we both got engaged and have been exchanging our thoughts and plans. As much as i would prefer not to go, i dont see an easy way out of it? i mean, i talk to her every couple weeks or so and we email back and forth several times a week so its not like i can just slither out of this unnoticed.

what I have decided to do is make a donation in her and her FH name to the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and in the card write 'we tried to think out of the box'.
