Unrealistic dress budget??

Original post by b2b2013

Is it unrealistic to get a dress (hopefully with alterations) for around $2,500? This is the budget I set for myself and I would like to stick to it as close as possible.

I got a Maggie Sottero, including tax+alterations (minus the bustle) the dress comes out to be $1400. Definitely do-able

I paid a little more than 1K for my dress, you should go to Lillette's in Bellmore. They have reasonably priced dresses and can work with your budget

No way! I don't even think mine came to that after alterations and everything!

I know a lot of people are having Paradise Bridal issues right now, which is bananas to me since I had such a great experience, but it wouldn't hurt to look there even if you don't purchase from there! They have a huge selection of affordable gowns.

Edited for typos!

No WAY!!

Don't let TV and magazines brainwash your budgets!! So many things have been blown out of proportion and I think new brides sometimes think the outrageous prices in magazines is the norm... it's not though!!

I believe the average is about 2K for a dress
Mine is just about that price :)

Thanks for all the info!! I plan on losing another 30 lbs or so so I'll prob wait until Sept or Oct to look for dresses so I know what will look right with my body. I LOVE Maggie Sotterro so I will hopefully find one that looks great on me! Thanks again for all the help- I don't know what I'd do without this site sometimes!!

Re: Unrealistic dress budget??

i think thats a really reasonable budget. most of the dresses i realy loved including the one i bought were under 2000, some were even under 1000. so when you add in alterations you should still come in around or under your 2500 budget. as long as you dont want to drastically alter your dress i cant see alterations running more than a few hundred. my only suggestion is when you go shopping dont tell the consultant that your max budget is 2500, say its 2000 so that way you leave a little buffer and have the money left over to pay for the alterations and tax.

That is totally doable! And make sure you keep your mind open, especially if you are going to lose some weight.

I had the same budget as you, and was sure I knew what I wanted, but ended up falling in love with a sale dress! So in total my dress, veil, undergarments and alterations all came to about 1000!

Re: Unrealistic dress budget??

I was under 2k even after alterations. I tried on about 30 dresses and I told them my budget was 1200, then later 1600. I live in Centereach and here's where I went:
Bridal Suite of Centereach
Fantasia Bridal
Village Bridal
Macys Smithaven (got my dress there)
And a couple other places, but those above were the best and had a TON in that price range.

Thats a nice budget. You will definately be able to get something for that. Probably even a lot less. Good Luck!

Not at all!! I got my dress for less than that. My dress was 1300 including alterations.

I had a great experience at Bridal Suite in Centereach.

You could get a beautiful gown with that budget. Have you seen the White by Vera Wang offered by David's Bridal? Their all under 1500!

OMG I was just looking at them and they're GORGEOUS!!! Thank you!!!
