untraditional bride..... questions and poll

im a feminist and a tomboy. i hate stockings and have only worn them like twice in my life. i dont want to wear them at my wedding. i usually wax my legs, so they are going to be very smooth for my wedding, so i dont need to worry about that.

im getting a lot of comments from my family about this. i have always been like this, and i dont see why i have to make myself uncomfortable my wedding day just because 'im suppose to' wear them...


also, i dont want to toss a bouquet or garter. its pressure for the single women and men, and i dont enjoy that part of weddings. i dont see the point.

and the veil.... i definitely will not be wearing one over my face. i dont really want to wear one, but i may just wear a short one for the ceremony and take it off after. i dont care about having pictures with my veil.

does anyone feel the same way?

any comments or constructive ideas would be appreciated. im having a hard time with my family about these things. shouldnt it be my decision since it is my wedding?

i dont understand why you would have to wear stockings with a wedding dress or ever! i am also not doing the garter or bouquet toss.

It is definitely up to you but i understand how you could feel pressure if you tell family members you don't plan to wear one. If you really feel like wearing a veil is not 'you' then you probably should consider not wearing one. You can still look like a traditional bride but also reflect your own style at the same time. Maybe you can find some alternative to wearing one that will have presence and draw attention to your hair.

I'm the same way, kind of. I'm not wearing stockings, I hate them, and if I can help it, never wear them. I also am not keen on the idea of a veil, but I'm wearing a fingertip one for the ceremony because I HAVE to religiously, and for pics, then taking it off. If I did a short one, it would like kind of stupid on me because I'm so tall, so I don't mind that it's kind of long. I am doing the bouquet and garter though, because it's just something that I'm accustomed to, and my sister didn't do it at hers so I want to. If you don't feel comfortable doing any of these things, don't do them!

I wore a blue dress, NO stockings, open toe shoes (in February!), NO garter toss and NO Bouquet toss. Talk about 'Untraditional' but it was MY day so it was MY way!!! Also i didn't wear a veil either

i do want to wear a simple tiara. one that is straight across (no peak in the middle). it looks really good with my dress (which is very traditional and elegant, btw).

i guess i just hate hearing it from my family. when i was trying on gowns with my mother and a close family friend, they would also ask the person assisting us to get a veil for me to try on with it. i have told them my opinions on it, but they havnt listened. my MOH also is trying to push me to wear a veil.

i dont want to make a huge deal of it, but i may have to put my foot down about this. i guess i have the right to do that since im the bride.

I didn't wear stockings either infact I NEVER wear them, sorry but hate stockings.

ALOT of brides now don't do the whole tossing of the bok, so there is nothing wrong with not doing it, its becoming a popular choice.

And same as veil, its up to you really and everyone will have their opinions but just don't listen to everyone elses opinions, i didnt and didnt even second guess myself when others felt the need to tell me how things should be done. My friend didn't wear a veil at all for her wedding, not even for ceremony and i thought it was perfectly fine. You just gotta do whatever makes you happy.

I feel the EXACT same way as you, and my family feels as yours does. (wanting me to wear the veil) I still don't care I will not wear one over my face.

I didn't even know a bride was 'supposed' to wear stockings!

I'm wearing a veil, but only because I want to ... I don't think there's anything wrong with not wearing one. It's your day, do what makes you happy!

I won't be wearing stockings and I really don't want to wear a veil but its a part of a Jewish wedding that the groom has to veil the bride right before the ceremony...so I'll be wearing one for my Mom.

You need to do what you are comfortable with.

I'm not wearing stockings - hate them and it'll get too hot under my dress. No garter or bok toss for me either. I hated them when I was single - I'm not putting the few single guests I have through that.

I'm undecided abou a veil. I think I might use it for the church and a few pictures but then take it off.

Oh, and I'm doing a dark chocolate wedding cake. It's my favorite and I think it'll look really pretty for a fall wedding! I've gotten a lot of grief over that, but I don't care - it's what FH and I want.

Not wearing stockings...you couldn't pay me to wear them EVER

Not doing the bk or garter toss and I am wearing a bird cage veil because I didnt want to wear a veil either....

I would just tell your family or whoever is pressuring you that it is your wedding and you want what you want.

We're not doing the bouquet toss or the garter...we don't have that many single friends, and they would be absolutely mortified if we made them stand up in front of everybody..

Stockings? Not for me either...but I am going to be rocking some serious Spanx..but only because my gown is fitting.

Veil? DO whatever you want-there are no rules anymore. You should feel beautiful and comfortable on your wedding day, don't worry about pleasing everyone else, because someone will always have an opinion. Its yours that matters most.

No stocking ever...in any part of my life.

We are not doing the toss and doing an anniversary dance instead.

Veil- I am wearing one for the ceremony but not the reception. And I will not have it over my face coming down the isle...

I would never wear stockings on my wedding day!!! Even if it was the dead of winter. I am wearing a veil, but I like it! You have to like and be comfortable with what you wear!!! If you don't want a veil, don't wear one! You may want to google image 'cage veils' because they are netting and short and really vintage and cool!!! Good luck!!!
