UPDATE: HOW THE HECK do people find the audacity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok so here is the update to my aunt inviting four extra people without consulting FH and I first, bringing ehr total from 2 to 6...
I spoke to my aunt a few days ago and although I had a minor anxiety attack ahead of time, it went surprisingly well. i think because I caught her at the aiport at the time, she didn't have room to yell. however, the first words out of ehr mouth after our intial polite words was 'I got your invite and my son is coming.' there was emphasis placed on the 'my son.' I calmly said my rehearsed lines, stressing that we had had to cut out several people among our friends, not jsust our family sue to the small budget and she was silent for a long moment before she said, 'no problem. I'll tell my son.' Again emphasis on the son.
I felt horrible because I am a very sensitive person which is why I hide behind a razor wit and she was being so calm about it I almost burst out telling her it was ok to bring him. But then I remembered all the years they snubebd me and my mom and how I was not invited to their wedding and I smiled and said,' Thank for being understanding, Titi. See you at the wedding. Love you.' She said the same and we hung up.
Now... I spoke to my dad and he said he's just waiting for the call because we know there must be buzzing behind the scenes. He said there is the possibility of them saying they are coming and not coming, but we are planning a plan B-to enlist my Uncle Nelson's help. He is the youngest of the clan and lives with my aunt and has nNO qualms about calling her out. We know even if the others do not come, he will because he reserved before the STd was sent out lol.
So right now I feel a little better though still waiting for the other shoe to drop. Lots of worries including damn witch at the post office who didnt wnat to take my invites that day to drop em into the bucket(wanted me topush em through the slot and they were bending.) Anyway after some arguing, she took them but now, I've had about 10 people tell me they never got one and we've only recieved 20 responses out of 70 invites sent so we're worried. if its not one damn thing its another!

you are not being unreasonable at all! hold your ground and be firm when you talk with them! so sorry you have to deal with this aggrivation!!! ugh.

I really feel for you-- that is very tacky and unthoughtful of them-- You are right and the way you said you were going to word it is very calm and respectful. Stick to your guns and good luck!

Wow, thats quite the story. Sorry you have to go through this but I dont think you're wrong at all. I think you should definitely address them and politely tell them that the extra people they chose to invite cannot attend. Good luck!

wowwww....and I thought my family was the height of inpropriety!! I'm dreading the invite/RSVP process after hearing this story....
I think that what you have planned to say is a whole lot more tactful than the situation deserves!!

Hah BELIEVE me...If I didn't love my dad so much and want to avoid him getting slack from those people, I would tell them all to kiss my big Puertorican...well you get the hint. But for his sake i am reigning in the Bronx chica inclinations...Trying..trying...

First off, I love the way you write, very descriptive! Secondly...you are doing the right thing by calling them, people need to learn to have some respect, I mean, HOW RUDE! I cannot believe she would add another COUPLE to the invite...I have heard this happening when people have little kids, but grown adults, come on!

do they not get that this stuff costs actual $$$? Did they think that the wedding fairy comes down like Jesus and makes a few plates multiply to feed the masses?! I already have the self inviters on my side...I'm planning to have arguments with them ALL in about a month or two to avoid having them come....j/k
Especially after they didn't have you and FH at their function, they think that they can run up in yours with whomever they want?....get real!

LOl thanks! Its either laugh or cry so I prefer to call people the neurotic jerky folk they are. And it wasn't ONE couple added..It was TWO! her handwriting was on my uncles invite too so she invited her son and his NEW fiance (divorced after a year-guess she wasn't the type to bake files into cakes) AND my uncle's estranged son and his wife.

OMG did I mention I started a new daycare job I am quitting? I got thrown up on today AND sat on a chair a child with a leaky diaper had sat in in previous to my tush's occupation... I also had to walk a mile in NJ and was offered three rides by strange men who took my 'Teacher's Rule' knapsack and bright orange reflector vest as hitchhiker chic... It's been a day folks.

indeed... yeah, definitely sounds like an evening to step away from wedding planning and instead mindlessly surf the net.... also a nice blood orange margarita might be nice as you deal with your laundry
I can assure you, with 4 days and 12 hours to the wedding, the first OOT'ers already in town, and a huge work deadline due tomorrow at lunchtime, there's a blood orange juice 'beverage' on my coffee table too

that story is just nuts. it's weird, i actually hear stories like this a lot, not here, but from friends. what you have planned to say is extremely tactful - at least you know you are doing the right thing, and being thoughtful about it. good luck!
