Update on my FMIL ruining my engagement!

First of all I just want to thank everyone for helping me thorugh that rough time with my FMIL and for all your great advice. Venting made me feel so much better and your help was so great!

Now for the good news, after all her harassing us about the ceremony and having to get married in the church or it wouldn't be recognized, we met with her priest. He had no problem at all marrying us at the Woodbury Country Club on a Sunday afternoon. He was more than happy to do it for us and even gave us the name of a Rabbi he has worked with in the past. So we have a priest (FMIL's nonetheless) and she is thrilled now. All of a sudden she is acknowledging our wedding and that it is going to happen. She even said she couldn't wait to tell people (we have had the date booked for 3 months now). Of course she doesn't care that the Rabbi isn't booked yet (we have a meeting with him next week) which bothers me but as long as she is off our backs we are happy.

Sounds like she is a very very conservative Catholic, and that 1) in her mind unless you have the priest or Church booked, the wedding isn't booked and 2) the priest she wanted you to use probably talked to her and told her that it's not the end of the world if you and your FH do not get married in a Church and that she needs to get with the program!

I bet you were thrilled to hear her priest say that he didn't mind marrying you at the club. What a relief that must have been!

Thanks. Yes, now everyone is happy. This is how we wanted it to be from the very beginning and FMIL had to make it almost unbearable for a little while. She is a very devout Catholic and sometimes she lets that take over her life and she becomes very selfish.
