*UPDATE*: Please pray for us, ladies?

Original post by Colette

Hello everyone, I have just had a chance to read through your replies and I am *overwhelmed* by your kindness. I wanted to let you know that you have all helped me so much, whether you posted, prayed, or simply sent a kind thought our way. MrsPotterhead, your talmudic story gave me great comfort at a time of tremendously conflicting emotion. I will always be grateful for that.
Most important, I wanted to let you know about my Thanksgiving miracle, or MIRACLES i should say because we've received quite a few in the last two days. We've been able to change our date to 11/24 - one day later than scheduled, which allows us to finish my Dad's wake today and funeral tomorrow. Then proceed with our wedding without having the funeral the next day which would have been too awful for words. Now the part that simply amazes me... EVERY SINGLE VENDOR i'm working with is accomodating the change, my reception hall, Castle on the Hudson, Florist John McGee, Hairstylist, Makeup artist (and guest! Patricia), Band (Good Clean Fun), Bagpiper Andy, our Church and Priest, our videographer Halo (Jack), our photographer (Thomas Paul will shoot our reception; an alternate will do the mass and family shots), our limos and our minibus company. And ALL of our guests will be there on Saturday night. What more can I say, I think my Dad took care of everything.

Ladies, I'm not overly religious but believe me as I type this through tears to let you all know that LOVE is stronger than death, and grief does not kill joy. I have 100 people who have personally committed to make Saturday the BEST wedding ever, so I am committed to do the same. My Dad LOVED a good party and a good story so we will give him that.

11/23 brides you're all in my hearts tomorrow, I shall think of you throughout the day and night.
11/24 brides, my new date twins, we'll be together in spirit and have wonderful weddings.
11/25 brides, nothing but heartfelt good wishes to you as well.

As Bing Crosby sang... 'I've got plenty to be thankful for...'
----------------------------------------
Hello everyone, I am still in shock but really need some prayers today, my Dad passed away last night and our wedding was to be Friday. I thik we are moving it to Saturday but it will be a miracle to get everything reset, but we think its the best thing to do.
Please pray that we can get through the next few days; thanks to all of you in advance, I'll be back online late tonight or tomorrow :(

Re: Please pray for us, ladies?

Hi,
I know I don't know you at all, but I wanted to express my sympathy. There are no words to describe what you are going through, and I am so very sorry that this happened. I lost my father very unexpectedly less than 4 months ago. Its a horrible thing to go through, and if you ever need to talk, sometimes talking to someone you don't know that well can be helpful, feel free to send me an FM anytime.
There's never a good time to lose someone you love, but I can't even imagine what it must be like so close to the wedding. After my father passed (its still so hard to write that), I questioned whether or not I wanted to still have the big party. While I'm not particularly religious, I knew that it was Jewish law that you are not supposed to cancel a wedding because of a death in the family. Whether you are Jewish or not, you might appreciate this. When I spoke to a Rabbi about this, he told me that came from an old talmudic story that said basically this:
If a wedding procession and a funeral procession met at a crossroads, the funeral procession must give way to the wedding procession. The celebration of life takes precedence.
I didn't put it as eloquently as he did, but I appreciated that story.
The wedding will be very bittersweet, but I'm sure your dad would want you to have it, and he will be there.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I am so sorry that you have to go through this.
