************** UPDATE: The only BM who didn't want strapless wound up falling in LOVE with three strapless dresses at the store and is now a convert. Funny how things work out sometimes.
Seriously! She was in love with the dresses! Everyone actually agreed on a strapless dress and wants to wear it strapless. They are going to look great - we picked out a Bill Levkoff that I'll post on another thread.
*****************
We're going for the FIRST TIME to try on BM dresses this weekend. I sent out pics of the two dresses I love, both of which happen to be strapless (like my own gown). None of my BMs are heavy - some are well endowed (like me!), but all of them are smaller than I am now.
One of them asked if they could get straps sewn in b/c she doesn't like wearing strapless bras.
Okay, say I pick these dresses -- would it be unreasonable to ask her to wear it strapless for the pictures and get straps that she can put on (and change bras) after pics / before the CH? There's a bridal suite with a private bathroom at the RH.
Grr... I knew someone would complain, but I LOVE this dress (and a very similar one without the pick ups):
I'm not sure how it would look with straps thick enough to wear a regular bra...
Anyone seen something similar (with or without pickups) that maybe has a different top?

ETA:
I can see them now.
I don't think it would be unreasonable to ask her to wear them without the straps for the pics but, she wouldn't be able to wear a regular bra with the attachable straps anyway.
Some of my girls didn't want strapless at first but, they grew to like it! A couple wore strapless bras and a couple wore those stick on bra things...

Re: WWYD if a BM complained about strapless?
I was in a wedding in July we wore WTOO Style 880. It had pickups like the one you show.
It had straps inside. During the reception two of us pulled the straps up to keep the dress in place while dancing. The straps came with the dress but were tucked inside.
The Levkoff dress may also do that.

I had this problem and I told her she could get the straps sewn in but for the church and the picture taking she had to have them tucked in then while she was dancing or whatever she could put them up. HTH annoying I know

I had the same issues with the strapless dress. One of my bm will have straps sewn on because it is just easier then fighting with her. My sister has no chest and I mean none. She was sized when she was still bf her daughter so the dress looked good. But as soon as she stops she will be back to a small B cup if she's lucky. I am letting her go with straps bc otherwise her dress might not stay up

although it's your wedding, you want your BM to be comfortable. If she wants straps, then she should have them. However, she can tuck them in for pics but then have them on for the rest of the night.
Strapless dresses aren't for everyone and it's important to respect your BM wishes. I'm doing the same for mine.
Good Luck!

Re: WWYD if a BM complained about strapless?
Problem is, I think she wants straps thick enough to wear a bra with straps under it (not just spaghetti straps).
Could that be done and still go strapless for the church and CH?
Would you allow just one of your BMs to wear a dress with straps while the others were strapless?

Yes, as long as she was comfortable.

No. Removeable 1' thick straps would be awfully ugly. Ask her if she's really going to be that uncomfortable, because you may need to hunt down another dress. I have seen a similar style, but with a halter- that''s more supportive.

Re: WWYD if a BM complained about strapless?
that's the exact dress i was looking at for my BM!!! it was gorgeous, but i have 2 BMs that are alittle heavy and it didnt look good on them. one of my BM was complaining about the strapless, but she was the only one and i didnt want her looking different from everyone else. i told her she should get a corset that fits her comfortably and she'll be fine.
if you dont mind her looking different, then changing into straps is a good idea. i may have sounded bridezilla, but this was the final straw, i told her this was the dress and deal with it. lol i have 8 BMs...cant please them all.
this is the dress we ended up choosing...but i really want yours!!
honestly I would forego the uniformity of the pictures and let her wear the straps for the day. More than a few of my BM's have requested the same thing including my sister who is my MOH and I know they just don't feel comfortable in strapless because it doesn't give enough support for well endowed girls and there's actually a chance your pictures might look worse if a strapless gown/bra isn't supportive enough.
I wouldn't want to feel self conscious or uncomfortable if I were the BM who was told that I couldn't have straps for my gown and that's my main reason for telling my BM's that if I end up deciding on a strapless gown (which I'm trying to avoid doing) they can add whatever type of strap will make them feel comfortable for the day.
But remember this is JMO!!

I'm bending over backwards to accomodate all my BMs in terms of styles, price, etc... This is why I'm asking how people would handle it.
However, I also have SEVEN bridesmaids and I cannot possibly please all of them...

Absolutely! It's her body and she should be comfortable.

I told my bridesmaid they could use the spaghetti straps that came with the dress or have straps made or go strapless, whatever they were most comfortable with. I think they will look better in pictures and throughout the day if they aren't hiking their dress up and looking uncomfortable. I think that would draw more attention to them than if they had straps. Plus, everyone will be looking at YOU because you are the most important person at the wedding!

also...the dress we ended up getting has a rubber inside to help hold the dress up. maybe they can get something like that.

Re: WWYD if a BM complained about strapless?
I believe Impressions makes that dress in a halter top style which looks really nice.
But if that's not something that's an option, if I were you, I would ask her to go strapless until the reception and then she can don sewn in straps if that's what makes her feel comfortable. Chances are, maybe she won't want to pay for the strap addition.

Re: WWYD if a BM complained about strapless?
I can't see having someone near and dear to me be uncomfortable the day of my wedding.
why does it matter so much if she wants straps? I am sure you are self conscious about wearing certain things...why make her miserable? for the pictures...it won't make a lick of difference. the color is what is important, if anything at all.
girls, remember, these are people you, if not loved at one time, at least liked....for the love of God, let them wear something they feel comforable in and that is flattering on them.

I agree- I was answering only 1 part of the question. Straps won't be a big deal in pictures. Plus, if you tell the others that she is getting straps added, then maybe one or two more might want them.
