Sorry to vent..... but my maid of honor is acting ridiculous right now!
my wedding is in 15 days and tells me that she is wearing her hair in 'flat twists'!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am sorry, but that is not what my fh (her brother), myself and her had agreed on months ago.
I am not a bridezilla, but I believe I am turning into one for this one small thing.
I told her that if she wears her hair in flat twists, she will NOT be in any of our professional pics...she cursed me out and then hung up the phone.
Am I wrong for telling her that?
I just think that the hairstyle she says she is going to wear is not appropriate for my wedding!
Here is the update...
I called her and calmly discussed the reasons why she wants that specific hairstlye and if they were any other haristyles she would consider...
her answer 'I WILL WEAR MY HAIR HOWEVER I F***ING FEEL LIKE IT! I DON'T GIVE A S**T WHAT YOU OR MY BROTHER SAYS, IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT...YOU CAN TAKE MY DRESS AND GIVE IT TO YOUR SISTER TO WEAR' click-she hung up on my AGAIN

I did not say the hairstyle is specifically for a certain race, in my opinion, the hairstyle is not formal enough for a wedding, especially for a person who is in the wedding party...

And you definitely have a right to feel that way...many people do...you guys just need to talk after you've both calmed down..

Re: Maid of Honor DRAMA
She has every right to say it, as I have every right to state my opinion... which she asked for by the way or else she wouldn't have come on here and asked for opinions...
In regards to the entire wedding and chosing everything for the BM... no... I don't agreee with that, I didn't choose my BM dresses, nor their shoes, nor their jewelry... I showed them what styles I liked... and if they didn't like them or didn't feel comfortable in them so be it... I wasn't going to wear it, they are, and all I want is for them to be comfortable. It just so happens that they liked some of the dresses I picked out and wound up buying them... but if they didn't feel comfortable with it then they didn't need to get it.
I sometimes feel that this entire wedding planning gets into... *****************, and yes that is true to an extent... I feel like the reason why you chose these people to be your MOH or in the bridal party is becuase you care about them, not becuase it will look nice in your pictures... thats all I am saying. So if the person that you care for wants to wear their hair a specific way... who cares... why should it ruin your day or even to argue about it with someone you love. Thats not going to slove anything.

Re: Maid of Honor DRAMA
/QUOTE]
cornrows and flat twists are two different things...cornrows tend to be more casual, flat twists can be worn for something more formal...but I understand and agree that she should have things go her way but perhaps she could have gone about it in a more tactful way...maybe the MOH got offended that you said she can't be in formal pics if she wears her hair like that...it's like a challenge...I think if you two just sit down and talk about it and try to relax you''ll see that the issue just got blown out of proportion...
I am going to let her calm down, she is extremely hard headed and jumps to conclusions...I only said what I said about the pro pics as a defense.

I think it's a personal choice and it's you and FH's wedding so you can decide what types of hair styles you want the members of your BP to have. I have seen flats twists on many different people and they all do not look like GinaBambina88's hair (very beautiful) so I can understand your concern!

I agree with Gina, I think you need to have a face to face conversation about this with your MOH and not threaten anything. Hopefully you guys can come to an understanding!

I do not know how to say what I am about to say without offending someone.... I want to apologize in advance.. but she is not of black decent
First of all it is not a 'black decent' thing I have seen caucasian, hispanic and african american women wear this type of style. Second of all your picture is way off course. Flat twists in an updo look more like the pictures depicted below. Third honestly if I was your MOH I would have probably gone off on you too for telling me I couldn't be in the pictures because of my hair! Hair is a very personal thing and that is just going a bit too far. If it makes you feel any better it will put more attention on you since her hairstyle will make her look so ugly.

Yeah, this is the way i'm used to seeing flat twists...they can definitely be formal...but I understand personal taste also...I want my BMs to wear their hair down...that's the look i'm going for..and as the bride, I think you should be able to have your wishes respected...and especially since she agreed to it previously, she shouldn't just change her mind like that...I completely understand why both of them would be upset...

First of all...I NEVER said it would make her look ugly, IMO, it is just not what I pictured for my wedding, I just don't think it is a wedding hairstyle...I think it is more of a casual hairstyle

Re: Maid of Honor DRAMA
Like you said in your posting this is a 'small thing.' You have to figure out if this is truly worth the stress. Pick and choose the things that really matter to stress over and let the others go. Let them ride because the reality of the matter is that she was your friend before the wedding and hopefully she will be your friend after the wedding. So you must decide what is more important your friendship or wedding hair. It is totally up to you. Good luck and I know you will make the best choice for you.

Maybe you should just call her after she calms down and see what she was planning on doing?
Maybe ask her to pull pictures off the internet for the style she is going for... maybe we are all just jumping to conclusions... ya know?
I def think you should call her though, you don't want tension with your MOH 2 weeks before the wedding...

Re: Maid of Honor DRAMA
I actuallly think you have a say to hair style but I aslo think it is not a very nice to tell your MOH that she can't be in the pro. pictures. becuase her hair style. I think it is not easy to be a MOH, she has to spend a lot of $$$$ and time on you. and I am sure you have a special friendship with her that's why you choose her as your MOH. oh the ohter hand, of course you want your wedding looks good, and you have a some right to decide what hair style you want , otherwise what if 1 of your BM is showing up with a mohawk just becasue she think it is cool?
I really think you should sit down with your MOH and ask her why she wants that, is it a reason? and does she really think the hair style looks good with the dress, etc. but def. should not tell her that she cant be in the pics.

You have every right to express your opinion if this isn't something that you are happy with. Each and every one of us has a vision of how we want things to look on our wedding day, standing by what you want and don't want should not be cause for drama. My FSIL wants her daughter (my ring girl) to wear a tiara, she's just about insisting I have told her several times that I would prefer if she didn't because the only one that I want wearing a tiara is MY daughter. I don't think I'm being selfish it is just what I invisioned from day one. Why can't people understand that planning a wedding is stressful enough without them adding to it with such stupid cr@p. Good luck and I hope you work it all out.

Re: Maid of Honor DRAMA
yikes...this thread got way out of hand!!
but just wanted to say....you picked your MOH for a reason--if she has flat twists in her her, well it won't be the end of the world. and who knows, it might look really good on her.
i think we sometimes focus on the things that really just do not matter at all. to tell your MOH that she won't be allowed in pics cause of her hairstyle just seems so dramatic. in the grand scheme of things, is it really that big of a deal? your MOH is supposed to be about the person who is most important and stands besides you as you get married. as long as she looks presentable, i don't see the big hoop-la over her hair style.
this goes back to the Already Married Brides Thread that we all love--and the #1 thing that is said on there from past brides to future bride: Don't sweat the small stuff
This person is your FH's SIL and your STB SIL, you will have to be friends with her for the rest of your married life, is the entire relationship worth souring over a HAIRSTYLE??
take a moment and step back from this all and see how its really not such a huge deal after all.
