********UPDATE******There is an abandoned baby kitten in my back yard
Hey ladies, first I want to thank everyone for their concern and all the help and advice you all provided!!! I also want to thank all the ladies who FM'd me and volunteered to take the little kitty in. I'm really sorry that I didn't have the chance to update you guys sooner, but i hardly ever get a chance to come online during the weekends (I work really late hours on the weekends).
A really good friend of mine, who's a stay at home mother, decided to take the kitty in and make it a part of her family! The kitten I believe was abandoned simply because 2 days went by and there was no sight of the mother. I did exactly what was adviced to me. I set out a bunch of really old clothes to keep the kitten warm, and I fed it. One of the girls posted that the kitty may have not been abandoned and that the mother just went hunting, but I thought the kitty would be a lot better off in a warm home rather than trying to survive on the streets regardless.
So thank you all once again ladies, and just to fill you in, little kitty has been given a name. My friend calls her Chloe.
_________________________________ Guys, there's an abandoned baby kitten in my back yard. It's as small as a hamster and it's punishing to survive on its own. I can't stand to see this, is there anyone who can help me out please??
I've called shelters and they all told me they couldn't help accomodate me, one says they'll take it but they would put it down and i can't see that happening.
My mom doesn't want me to bring it in the house b/c the last kitten i rescued ended up living with us and still is and she knows i'll want to keep it so i'm not allowed to bring it in the house but I cant see it punishing like this. This totally ruined my day. Is there anyone out there that would like to adopt, or can offer any advice to me? The kitten literally looks like it's 1-2 weeks old. please help.

If she won't let you bring it in the house is there a shed or garage you can set it up in, with blankets and such? What if you promise, IN WRITING, that you'll only care for it until it can be adopted out?
It is a very crucial time for the little thing. Get ye to the store and buy some condensed milk and an eye dropper STAT! If you have a Petland Discount or Petco near you, you can go there and get some vitamins to add to the milk (Stop and Shop has a decent pet section also). You CAN buy kitten formula but it's sometimes cheaper to go with the (liquid) vitamins and condensed milk.

See if JTsGal829 can help you too. She does stuff with Feral colonies.
I'll see what FH says but I can assure you he's going to shut me down.
Thanks soo much i will contact her. In the mean time i'm going to try to put the kitty in a box with blankets and feed it condensed milk--but i just want to make sure u mean condensed milk and not carnation milk? I'm assuming the condensed milk is really thick and sweet? Or do i have the wrong milk. This is so heart wrenching. I doubt i will find someone to adopt it. :(

My mistake - you're right. Here I found this:
Mother's Milk Substitute for Kittens and Puppies 240 ml (8 oz) Homogenized (3.25% milk fat) or evaporated milk (if you use evaporated milk, dilute two parts milk in one part water). Mother's milk substitutes are also available at a vet's office. 5 ml (1 teaspoon) Canola oil 1 drop Multivitamins for humans (or for kittens) 2 Egg yolks 5 ml (1 teaspoon) Corn syrup
(ETA- I've done the above without the eggs or corn syrup and it was fine)
Put all ingredients in a mixer and warm the milk before each feeding.
After each feeding Help the tiny animal to burp after each feeding. Then wash its abdomen and genitals with warm water to stimulate urination and defecation. Gently dry then rub the animal.
And you WILL find a home for it - it's just at this point in the kitten's life it's A LOT of work - I know, I've done it. Feedings all through the night just like a baby (I kept them in my room and they had me up almost every hour). Just feed it as often as you can - you do need a (kitten) bottle or an eyedropper though - that small they can't 'lap' yet. Also, you'll need to keep on top of cleaning them when they poop - see above (I have a funny story for that, but at another time).

You have FM! I'll try to help you any way I can. I asked FH and, as I predicted, he totally shut me down or else I'd take the little one off your hands.

i know a few pet stores (privately owned, not chains) sometimes take babies in a pinch, but i can't guarantee it. you can try my vet on in bay shore - island rescue (631) 968-8700 (on n. clinton and s. spur, sorta by 5th ave.) - i know they cater to rescue agencies and may at least be able to point you in the right direction. can you possibly take it in for the night at least?
these sites also looked promising (i googled 'animal rescue, long island):
Re: There is an abandoned baby kitten in my back yard
we rescued out kitten from allaboutspayneuter.com - her name is joann and shes located in massapequa - when we got our kitty there was a cage set up with probably 8 week old kittens that she was taken care of - shes completely capable - i would call her - even tho its late and see what she can do...

Re: There is an abandoned baby kitten in my back yard
are you SURE the kitten was abandoned? like, how long was it out there alone? if it's only been a day or so, there's a good chance he's not abandoned, his mama is just out hunting or something. They usually don't stick around the 'nest' most of the day, and come back periodically with food.
unless he's starving (meaning his belly is caving in instead of curving out) his mom is probably still around, and he's just fine, and he need to be left outside where you found him.
if the tummy is caved in and he's truly starving and truly abandoned, then best of luck to you, and you've been given some good advice. but if not, then he probably hasn't been abandoned.
don't mean to be harsh, just a lot of people make this mistake, and a baby that young has a really small chance of surviving without his mama, if he hasn't actually been abandoned.
good luck!

Re: There is an abandoned baby kitten in my back yard
I rescued an abandoned kitten last year that was 2 weeks old! They sell formula and bottles in the pet store. Also if you do take the kitten in you have to stimulate it to go to the bathroom. It won't go on its own when its that young. We still have the kitten we rescued last year and she's huge! Good luck!

Little Shelter, defintiely. My co-worker's wife volunteers for them and he's always fostering kittens until they're ready for homes. Can't believe I forgot about them!

I don't know if there is a PAWS shelter near you but look into it. They will take orphaned animals. Thats how we got our kitten. They adopt them out for very low fees and because its such a young kitten they will definetly have around the clock care for it. Tons of volunteers at the one by us in NJ and they're really good to the animals.
If we didn't have two, we would totally take it but its such a small apt.

PAWS is great, they will at the least help you find a home for the kitten. They helped us out a lot when we rescued two 3 week old kittens. FM me if you need any advice with bottle feeding or stimulating the kitty to go to the bathroom.
