URGENT SECRET SANTA NEWS PLEASE READ

due to the fact that some pple r having trouble thinking of gifts we have decided to change the rules a bit..first of all we have made a new thread with more q's please answer those as well...

we r trying to make this as easy as possible so pple can learn alot about each other...

hopefully these new q's can help u guys maybe make gift baskets if you run out of ideas and fill it with flavored coffees or nice mugs and fancy cookies or ice cream baskets with different topings and fancy ice cream dishes and a scoop etc..(just a few ideas...

also we have decided to ALLOW gift certificates if u want!!! but b creative please!! dont just throw one in an envelope and mail it, that suxx!! b creative!!! please!!!

send all gifts out by dec 12!!!!!! lot os shopping fun, post or fm q's...thanks

i think that gift cards should only be used in an EMERGENCY!!! if you get stuck for ideas you can fm myself or michi and we will get clues for you. i also came up with some generic ideas that are cute


candle basket-different shapes of candles and either votive holders or a candle snuffer

wine basket - a bottle of wine some holiday glasses

ice cream -different toppings and ice cream glasses and a nice scoop

lottery tickets

a nice lenox ornament with the date

an ornament with the persons name or wedding date

movie night -popcorn, candy and a dvd or vhs tape

be creative

for out of state people

something ny maybe bagels or italian bread etc etc

first of all, Michi and Joy rule and deserve all kinds of credit for organizing this and having to deal with all the stuff that goes along with it

Now, with all due respect to the esteemed members of this board, I am shocked and saddened that people are having a hard time thinking up gifts and would think of resorting to a gift certificate. I'm shocked to hear so many people saying, 'I'm afraid my person won't like their gift' Blah Blah Blah Come on folks, it's the holidays for Christ's sake. It's the spirit of giving from the heart and from the mind --and a gift certificate is not from the heart. Second, it's the thought behind the gift that counts. And third, if the person does hate it, I doubt they'd tell you anyway, so why worry??

I will say this in closing to whoever has me. If I get a gift certificate, I will publically call you out on this board and chew you apart for not being creative.

Everyone wants to do this and then when it comes time to do it, people make mountains out of mole hills.

Now that we have that out of the way...

Not to give Joy or Michi any grief, but I have to agree with Don that we shouldn't allow gift certificates or gift cards. I think its the easy way out and it opens the door for people to just send those without giving any further thought to the Secret Santa concept. We have created two threads now asking people to list their likes/dislikes and other interests they might have, so I think everyone should be able to come up with SOMETHING. And the latest suggestions that Joy and Michi posted are great ones

I too don't like gift certificates either,,,,but reading some of the people's responses and they don't like anything, have enough, like to pik things themselves, don't collect, craft etc...leaves it kind of hard then.

But I thought ti would be a good diea to list anyone on LIW who you know in real life, so maybe they cna suggest something if your person gets stuck. I don't know anyone, but maybe some people do!

I agree with Don. Everyone needs to relax about the secret santa. It's supposed to be FUN, not stressful! No one is expecting the perfect gift. Michi and Joy came up with some great ideas for us. I also agree there should be no gift certificates/cards.
