Oregon/Washington was one of the most beautiful trips I've ever been on. I'd go again in a heartbeat.

But would you choose it over say Paris/Hawaii etc if there was a choice?

Honestly, I probably would.

Re: Vacations

I was a counselor on a teen tour the summer after college. We did a cross-country trip for 6 weeks. I had no interest prior to that in seeing America but I have seen some absolutely beautiful areas right here. Wyoming is truthfully one of the prettiest places I have ever been.

Don't knock it till you try it

Re: Vacations

I'm very much with Felicia on this one. And my DH is similar about the traveling. I still think I can get him on some short flights out of the country but taking 22 hrs to get to Bora Bora for our HM (even though it was HIS idea) really did a number on him and it's going to be awhile before I can get him near an airport again! Poor guy, that was his FIRST trip outside the US!

There's alot of 'US' stuff I haven't done yet so I wouldn't mind taking a couple of vacations like that. The only state I've traveled to on vacation (as opposed to visiting family) is Florida so there are other states I would vacation to, like California.

But what it boils down to is you say 'vacation' and I think 'carribean' or 'islands'!

Re: Vacations

I prefer vacations to tropical locations, although I've been to so many islands at this point that it gets repetitive. I would LOVE to go to Europe and Australia. I really want to see the world, but unfortunately, these kinds of trips are beyond our means right now. We're hoping to go to Orlando in June or July (I haven't been to WDW since I was 14), and we might go to Arizona with DH's family at the end of August. I've never been to AZ, so I am excited to see this part of the country. It has such a different landscape to it. Would I rather be going to Europe? Yes. Will I be happy just getting away and seeing part of my country that I've never seen? Yes.

See, when you say vacation, I think historial re-enactment!
My mom doesn't like to fly, so we mostly went on east coast trips.

I am really curiosu about how other peopel live, so I like to see other parts of the country, to see what the options are like.
I haven't travelled much out of the US, mostly didn't have the time or money & I'm a little bit of a scaredy cat.

The only travel I've done out of the US is Canada & the Carribean ( on our HM cruise).

See. . that was me too. I am pretty much done with the east coast, except for maybe Maine ( I've only been to very southern Maine on the NH border), but there is so much out there.

Re: Vacations

In college I thought you had to go overseas to have a real 'vacation'. But at some point I become more interested in traveling around the US - there is so much out there, right in our own backyard. It is embarassing to me that most of the Europeans I know have traveled much more extensively in my own country than I have.

Having driven across the country several times and lived in most of the major areas (northeast, south, southeast, northwest, and midwest) I have a great appreciation for the diversity of cultures here.

Of course, places like Oregon and Montana are not known for their prestigious museums or great shopping - it's all about nature and experiencing a different way of life. So if you don't appreciate spending time in nature, there's probably not much of a reason to visit. That said, I would take a vacation to Oregon over a vacation to, say, France in a heartbeat.

Re: Vacations

I love all types of vacations, outdoors, hiking, relaxing on the beach, travelling around Europe. I think it all depends on the type of mood I am in. I have also been fortunate to have done a lot of travelling that includes all of the above things listed. Basically, I am up for any type of vacation... I don't necessarily equate any one particular activity with vacation....with the exception of not working
