What is a good vacuum cleaner and what is a good price for one? Thanks.

Re: Vacuum cleaner
I'm a life-long fan of Electrolux - I inherited my first one (a canister) from my grandmother and it lasted over 20 years. When we replaced it, the unit was still functioning but the hose needed replacing and it needed a good mainenance cleaning - would have cost a fair amount and given the age, we decided to buy a new one. They are expensive though, plan on spending about $800. And it's heavy. If you have wall to wall carpeting, it's well worth it. For a few area rugs, it may not be worth the expense.
I also have a small $35 vacuum from Costco that I use for quick touch ups.
Do a search on Vacuums on this board - there was a long thread about this a few months back.
Do you have one? They are sooo expensive but I'd like to get one!
I'm curious if its really as good as this guy says it is

My dad has one & I tried it out (at his house) and I love it but I still like my windtunnell better.

I have the DC07 Animal. It's a terrific vacuum! I'm kicking myself for not going with the DC07 Cyclone. I can't say I use the Animal's attachments all that much.
I have a Hoover Windtunnel as well. It's over 4 years old and isn't a bagless, that's why we purchased the Dyson. But I must say, the Hoover is a great vacuum. It's held up pretty well considering the abuse I put it through. When we're working on the home, I vacuum with the Hoover first to suck up the larger stuff, then I use the Dyson to finish up the job.

Re: Vacuum cleaner
What's a good vacuum for handling lots of carpeted stairs????? This is always a major task .. trying to juggle the vaccum while actually doing a good job on each stair. And I have to say .. the longer I have the bagless type of vacuum, the less and less I like it .. it's very messy to deal with when emptying.

I have this Bissell. I had a Dirt Devil before and it was horrible, after a year all it did was push around the pills of the rug.
Kel: You might like this because the canister detaches and you can bring it down the stairs without taking the whole thing. I never liked the messiness of the bagless on my Dirt Devil but the Bissell is SO much easier and less messy and easier to get the container off to empty.

Well .. after much debating .. this is the vacuum we went with .. and .. so far .. I love it .. it's the best we've ever had!! The major plus ... no more struggling trying to do the stairs .. the downside .. the cup seems to be a bit too small. But still .. a very good vac!!
