Can anyone think of a fun and preferably inepensive weekend (Fri-Sun) getaway that I can get for Rocco for V-Day??? He likes when I do little planned events for presents instead of tangible gifts, plus we get to both enjoy it I was thinking either a road trip somewhere (no ideas yet) or a night in the city then dinner and a show (but it seems silly to spend so much $ for a hotel in the city when it's so close). I thought the Poconos at first but for the room I liked it's like $500 a night, $1500 is a little beyond my means for a weekend getaway! Does anyone have any ideas?

Where in the poconos did you check, was it skytop? bc they charge that much a night, so was just curious.

Personally one of my favorite road trips from NY is Washington DC. My FH & I have been there a few times and we always have a lot of fun. FH hates history and museums and stuff and thought he would hate it there but ended up really liking all the stuff we saw. Even if all the historical stuff is not your thing, they have a lot of great restaurants and bars and a good nightlife.

Re: Valentine's Day Presents...hmmmm what to buy????
FH just took me for a weekend in the Hudson Valley and it was so much fun. We stayed at a B&B (more like a hotel, though - it had 30-something rooms) in Poughkeepsie, and there was a ton of stuff to do nearby - famous old houses to take tours of, vineyards for wine tasting, stuff like that. Mohonk Mountain house is only a half hour away if the weather's nice and you want to hike/walk the grounds. The room was nice and there was a really big jacuzzi, and it was like $169 for the night.
It was called Inn at the Falls (there's a creek right outside the hotels with a mini-falls - you can see it from your room) and we've been there twice; I really recommend it.

Me and FH started the tradition last year of going to a Marriott in Jersey and staying the night. They have alot of good restaurants near by and the shopping mall so we just do that. Last year we ate at Benihanas and this year I wanna go to the Cheesecake factory. The room is only $70 a night and its a nice hotel with indoor pool and jacuzzi.

you can book a bed and breakfast in New Hope, PA. i went there with my FH and it's really nice there. they have a cute village with lots of little shops and restaurants and they have tons of nice bed and breakfasts there. in the winter they have nice ones with fireplaces in the rooms, etc. and the prices are less expensive in the winter season. its something different and cute. you can probably google it.

There's a rest. me and FH go to in the poconos...it's surreal!! There is no website or any advertising for 25 years It's called Villa Varilla, and it's authentic Italian cuisine...you sit there for about 3 hours and it's 8 courses. It's a flat price of 55 a person and that includes all the courses. There is a Best Western ( I know) right down the block where we usually crash! FM if you want more info! It is very very romantic and you can BYOW (wine)!!

how about a night in the city...dinner and a comedy club? i just went to a comedy club here on long island actually...they had 4 comedians and they were funny...you can order dinner and there was a 2 drink minimum...
or you can go out to a nice restaurant and then the comedy club...
it was something different to do....

or you can go out east to a romantic b&b, or try a hotel, I'm sure they'll have some type of insentive since it's their off season. This is what I orignally wanted to do, but FH decided to extend a trip to West Palm & take a short cruise (my b-day is 4 days after Valentines)

Some of the girls from work go to an all inclusive castle type getaway thing. I hear it's not that expensive, I'll get the name of it when I see them tomorrow.
