we went to a wedding there last night and it was beautiful...but for small parties...there were about 130-140 people there and I think it was a little too much...you were constantly getting bumped on the dance floor and the tables were VERY tight...there wasn't a lot of room for the cocktail hour (maybe 1/3 of the people could sit) and it was a shame...b/c you couldn't enjoy the wonderful food...
the chapel that they used for the ceremony was beautiful as well...
if you booked it...you will not be disappointed...if you are looking for a place...it is fabulous for small parties...

Re: vanderbilt mansion
Thanks for your review. I just booked my wedding there yesterday. I'm having about 120-130 guests so I'm not too worried about the size of the room.

Re: vanderbilt mansion
I had my wedding there on 9-21. We only had about 100, and it was awesome. I agree that it's perfect for small weddings. In most places - the nicest room are for the biggest (250+) weddings.
I had a sit-down wedding at the Vanderbilt and I'd say it's great for 130 or less. Although the room max is supossedly 150 for a sit-down, I think that's be too many people for the space.

Re: vanderbilt mansion
This is my first post, but I have read this board for some time now. My wedding was the one on 10/12 mentioned earlier in this thread. Like Carrieann we had about 140 guests (138) and we felt it worked out beautifully. Although the dance floor was a little tight at times, it was only because everyone was dancing and having a great time. None of our other guests found any part of the night to be a shame in anyway, in fact my family and I have received many phone calls and emails saying how beautiful and wonderful the night was and how much fun everyone had. I would highly recommend the Vanderbilt Mansion to anyone having a wedding with 150 guests or less. The food was excellent and enjoyed by all. The staff was very professional and they attended to our every wish. We had a perfect evening! Dora, I am so glad to hear had you a good experience there too, I have been waiting for your review!

Re: vanderbilt mansion
My room holds a maximum of 200 people but I'm hoping to only fill it with 150-170 for that reason. I think it's always better to leave a bit of 'elbow room' I didn't read anything negative into yabbobay's post, she repeated several times that the space was beautiful and the food was wonderful...if she felt like it was a bit crowded, then that's her opinion and she should be free to post her assessment.
Dora, who also gave a positive review AGREED with yabbobays post on the size of the room. 'I had a sit-down wedding at the Vanderbilt and I'd say it's great for 130 or less. Although the room max is supossedly 150 for a sit-down, I think that's be too many people for the space.
I don't think that either post was meant to be offensive, just everyone's opinion. The wedding sounds like it was fantastic, crowded or not and a crowded wedding is always better than everyone not showing up! It was perfect enough for you and that's all that matters in the end.
