Veils and Headpieces
I have what might be a silly question, but wondering what everyone else does ... My hair is slightly longer than shoulder length and has a million layers in it. While I would love to wear it up, I don't know if I can without having to buy extensions for the day. The problem is that I need to order my headpiece, but don't want to do it until I know what can be done with my hair. On the other hand, my hairdresser wants to know what type of headpiece I will be wearing so he can design my hair around it. It sounds like its the 'chicken and egg' thing ... what is everyone else doing? Is anyone else buying hair (extensions) for the day to have your dream hair? (Plus, has anyone ever had them? How are they put in? I can just see my wedding night ... 'honey, there are 3 pieces stuck in my head, please find them! :) Thanks ...

Why not have your hairdresser suggest what would work best with your hair, and what type of headpiece you should be searching for, for the best hair design that would complement your facial structure and the entire look?

I'm having the same problem!!!!! I am growing my hair out and it's not quite shoulder length. When I asked the guy that does my hair what styles could I do with my hair(just to get some ideas), he said that it depends on the headpiece. The other day I went headpiece shopping and the first question they asked was how I was wearing my hair. AAARRRRGGGGHHH!!!!

Jenn, Yep, that is what is happening to me. I agree with the suggestion Kel wrote to my question, but unfortunately my hairdresser has a bit more imagination than I do, so he is looking at me for direction .. but, based on my headpiece! I have started looking at crowns and tiara's but haven't found anything that has hit me yet ... have you found anything yet that you've liked? (Us Fox Hollow brides need to stick together! :)

Kel, Thanks, unfortunately I tried that route already and hated everything he suggested. For example, I usually have bangs and he pulled my hair all back ... I was just uncomfortable and self conscious. I don't want to look like I look everyday, yet I don't want to look like a completely different person either. How frustrating this is! :)

I hate my hair pulled all the way back too!!! I love my bangs and am not anxious to part with them. I was thinking about half up/half down(becuase my hair is ALWAYS down), so I put my hair up when I went out shopping for headpieces. Nothing looked right

Veils and Headpieces
One factor you need to consider is if you are a hair or headpiece person. And if you want your veil placed on top of your head VS. under your up do. I knew I wanted my veil 'underneath' my up do. So I got a veil on a comb that I can take off if I want. That left a lot of options on headpieces (hairpins, tiaras, headbands). Actually since I am more of a hair person, the day of my trial I took my veil to the bridal shop and basically tried on all the possibilites and ended up with a small crusted tiara on a comb that slides infront of my updo. I always thought I wanted a waterfall veil, but I didn`t like the idea of it covering up my hair. Basically it`s whatever makes you feel most beautiful!

Veils and Headpieces waterfall veil
I am wearing a waterfall - and after buyng it I thought of what you just wrote about - the veil covering my hair. I hope I don't regret this... Is there anyway to wear a veil like this and still have some kind of hairstyle? I have very long hair and I was going to wear it up - with curls should I consider wearing it down and curly so you can see it? Any suggestions?

And I thought the dress was hard. This is worse. I have looked at and tried on lots of beautiful styles, I love tiara's but nothing looks right. But then how would it - I never walk around with a crown on my head. I think I am going to work on the headpiece/veil fist and then work on the hair.

Veils and Headpieces waterfall veil-Sue
Sue, the only way that was suggested to me was to actually mount the veil in the middle rather than the front of my up do. Personally I wasn`t crazy about that idea, but I would cut out pictures of brides with the style of veil you bought and see what your stylist can come up with. I am sure he/she can come up with an updo to complement your veil as well as making you a happy bride ! :)

I'm just starting to look too, and also wondering the same. Does the hair style come first or the head piece. I''m thinking the headpiece. I think the hairdresser can realy come up with some good ideas once he sees what you''ve chosen. They always do. I have a question. Where is everyone looking for veils & headpieces?

Veils and Headpieces - Where to Look
I started looking where I purchsed my gown. They have headpieces that started at $300.00 without a veil - all of sudden it was the $$ breaking point. For that kind of money I can buy a nice piece of jewlery that I can wear all the time. Alternative sources: * EBay. I cant get over how many they have all very well priced. * search on line - lots of good sites * Patchogue Fantasy Floral * The Bridal Building in NYC * There are a lot of shops in NYC around 38th between 6th and 9th Good Luck

Veils and Headpieces - Where to Look
Where is the Bridal Building? Aren't the places on 38th street the wholesale venders for lace, trims & beads. Are there actual veil stores or only factories. I work on 34th. 38th is not the nicest street. i'm going to look @ ebay. I hate the whole bidding thing, but lets see.

Your right thats not the best area of the city but not bad. The bridal building is 1385 Broadway and open to the public on Sat. When I went to look at gowns I found a number of places there with headpieces. Pauls Veils is on 38th someplace between 5th & 7th they do both custom work and have stock. They were less expensive than the bridal salon but still not cheep. There are a number of places inside the fabric stores - you really have to look. I may go hunting again soon. I will report back.
